Herringbone weaving or shoe stitch is one of the classic techniques in the bead weaving world. There are several variants of this technique, including tubular herringbone weaving, which, as the name suggests, allows for a weave in the shape of a tube but with 4 edges. This technique also exists in a twisted tube version. We will see this one in a future tutorial.
We have several tutorials on the site which presents the normal herringbone weave:
The important thing to remember about tubular herringbone weaving is that it is a fairly simple technique where you add the beads 2 by 2 on a woven base at the very beginning. These then form an angle that can make one think of fish bones, hence the name, the term herring bones. The difficulty will be to manage not to make a mistake when weaving and to tighten the weave without forcing so that the beads keep their angle from one row to the other. The resulting tube is very flexible.
Join the first 2 and the last 2 beads together by forming a new loop.
Thread 2 new beads and pass through the juxtaposed bead. Go into the next bead from underneath and thread 2 new beads. Move on to the next bead. You have now completed the 3rd row of the bracelet with 4 beads.
Continue weaving in this way until you have a 2.5 cm weave for a wrist of less than 16 cm and 3 cm or more from 16 cm. You can adapt the size of the golden part according to your taste but keep the same distance on both sides of the bracelet.
To make a gradient, start adding little by little white beads as soon as your bracelet is 2.5 cm or 3 cm. Be careful to test the weave on your wrist as you go along so that it is not too long or too short when you do the reverse at the end. The weave should be the size of your wrist -1 cm.
To change the thread if it becomes too short, go through the previous bead columns to pinch and hide the thread and cut it. Cut a new one and wedge it evenly in the weave before starting again in the same place. Once the weave is the size of your wrist -1 cm, wedge the thread in the beads and cut it off. Glue the weave in the tips and wait 2 hours before you start to assemble.
Put 6 mm rings on each tip. Add 4 mm rings and the clasp.
