Many thanks to Emeline of the blog Les agrumes for this tutorial.
Before getting started
In this tutorial, several stitches will be used: tight stitch, cast-on stitch, air stitch, magic circle, decrease, increase.
The following abbreviations will be used throughout the steps:
Rg: rank
M: mesh
Ms: tight mesh
Mc: cast mesh
Aug : increase
Dim : decrease
Important information before you start:
When working flat, as is the case for the three parts making up the mushroom (the two faces and the contour band), you need to add one stitch in the air at the end of each row before turning the work and starting the next row.
Please note that this air stitch does not count towards the stitch total indicated in brackets.
STEP 1
Start at the top of the mushroom head with Light rose natura XL cotton:
Row 1: Make a chain of 9 stitches in the air + 1 stitch in the air to turn the work. (9m)
STEP 2
Carry out rows 2 to 36 according to the following instructions:
Rg 2: 1 aug, 7 ms, 1 aug (11 m)
Rg 3: 1 aug, 9 ms, 1 aug (13 m)
Rg 4: 1 aug, 11 ms, 1 aug (15 m)
Rg 5 : 1 ms in each m (15 m)
Rg 6 : 1 aug, 14 ms (16 m)
Rg 7 : 1 ms in each m (16 m)
Rg 8 : 15 ms, 1 aug (17 m)
Rg 9 : 1 ms in each m (17 m)
Rg 10 : 1 aug, 16 ms (18 m)
Rg 11 : 1 ms in each m (18 m)
Rg 12 : 17 ms, 1 aug (19 m)
Rg 13 : 1 ms in each m (19 m)
Rg 14 : 1 aug, 18 ms (20m)
Rg 15 : 20 ms, 3 m in the air (23 m)
Rg 16: 23 ms, 3 m in the air (26 m)
Rg 17: 1 aug, 24 ms, 1 aug (28 m)
Rg 18 : 1 aug, 26 ms, 1 aug (30 m)
Rg 19 : 1 ms in each m (30 m)
Rg 20 : 1 aug, 28 ms, 1 aug (32 m)
Rg 21 : 1 aug, 30 ms, 1 aug (34 m)
Rg 22 : 1 ms in each m (34 m)
Rg 23 : 1 aug, 32 ms, 1 aug (36 m)
Rg 24 : 1 aug, 34 ms, 1 aug (38 m)
Rg 25 : 1 ms in each m (38 m)
Rg 26 : 1 aug, 36 ms, 1 aug (40 m)
Rg 27: 1 aug, 38 ms, 1 aug (42 m)
Rg 28 to rg 31: 1 ms in each m (42)
Rg 32 : 1 dim, 38 ms, 1 dim (40 m)

Rg 35 : 1 Sun, 32 ms, 1 Sun (34 m)
Rg 36 : 1 Sun, 30 ms, 1 Sun (32 m)
To finish, cut the wire, leaving a few centimetres to pass through the loop.
STEP 3
For the foot of the mushroom, use white natura XL cotton. Pick up at the base of the mushroom head at the 11th stitch:
Make rows 1 to 18 according to the following instructions:
Rg 1: 12 sts (+ 1 stitch in the air before turning) (12 sts)
Rg 2 to 12: 1 st in each stitch (12 m)
Rg 13 : 1 aug, 11 ms (13 m)
Rg 14 : 1 aug, 12 ms (14 m)
Rg 15 : 1 aug, 13 ms (15 m)
Rg 16 : 1 aug, 14 ms (16 m)
Rg 17 : 1 aug, 15 ms (17 m)
Rg 18 : 1 dim, 13 ms, 1 dim
To finish, cut the thread, leaving a few centimetres to pass through the loop.
Crochet a second mushroom face in the same way.
STEP 4
To make the contour band, follow the instructions below:
Row 1: Make a 7-stitch chain, then 1 stitch in the air, to turn the work, with the white cotton.
Rows 2 to 50: 1 st in each st (7m)
At row 51, change color
Rows 51 to 107: 1 st in each stitch (7m) in pink cotton.
Cut the yarn and make a cast-on stitch to finish the job.
STEP 5
The dots are in white cotton and will be sewn onto the mushroom head. But first, make 10 polka dots in three different sizes, following the instructions below:
The small one (4 times)
Rg 1 : 6 ms magic circle
Rg 2: 2 sts in each st (12 sts) and a cast-on stitch to finish. Cut the thread at about 20 cm (this thread will be used to sew the polka dots).
The medium (4 times)
Rg 1 : 6 ms magic circle
Rg 2: 2 ms in each m (12 m)
Rg 3: *1 ms, 1 aug*, repeat from * to * 5 times (18 m) then 1 mc to finish. Cut wire to approx. 20 cm
The big one (2 times)
Rg 1: 6 ms magic circle
Rg 2 : 2 ms in each m (12 m)
Rg 3: *1 ms, 1 aug*, repeat from * to * 5 times (18 m)
Rg 4: * 2 ms, 1 aug*, repeat from * to * 5 times (24 m) then 1 mc to finish. Cut wire to approx. 20 cm
STEP 6
This is the mushroom assembly step.
Start by sewing the dots on both sides of the mushroom with a wool needle.
Next, join the outline strip with one side of the mushroom, right sides together in backstitch.
Then sew the two ends of the contour strip as shown in the photo.
Then join the second side, right sides together with the contour strip, using the backstitch. Leave the base of the foot open and turn over.
Stuff.
Finally, close the last seam.
Your mushroom cushion is finished. It will look great in a little girl's bedroom or in your living room.
It's up to you to change the colors so that the cushion blends in with your interior.
