Want to add a natural, bohemian touch to your table? This macramé tutorial teaches you how to create pretty coasters and trivets by hand, with a few simple knots and a little patience. A decorating project that's as practical as it is relaxing, perfect for beginners or those who want to perfect their macramé skills.
There's no need for machines or complicated equipment: all you need is cotton rope, a comb and a good pair of scissors to transform a few strands into durable, aesthetically pleasing everyday objects. You'll learn how to make basic knots (overhand knots, winding knots, etc.), organize your strands and create a round pattern with a very natural look.
These creations are ideal for protecting your surfaces, but also for adding a handcrafted touch to your decor. You can even personalize them by playing with sizes, colors or finishes (bangs, beads, dyes...).
For macramé coaster cords, you can use a ball of Natura XL DMC cotton or cotton supreme 3XL. Each will enable you to create 4 coasters 9 to 10 cm in diameter, not counting the bangs. They come in many different colors.
For the teapot trivet, we've used Rico Design macrame creative cotton cord, with which you can create a macrame trivet 13 to 15 cm in diameter, not including bangs. You can also use DMC NOVA VITA's recycled cotton macrame cord, but please note that you won't be able to create bangs with it. You can, however, crochet a trivet with a macrame basket or plant hanging.
You're interested in macramé, but you're not familiar with knots. Watch the 11 basic macrame knots on video. In this tutorial, we'll be using just 2 knots: the lark's knot and the frivolity knot.
