Here's a special beginner's step-by-step guide to making your first wall hanging, an activity you can do with children.

The loom and its accessories: 2 needles, one for fine yarns, one for thick wools, the reed and, on the right, the shuttle. We'll be using all these accessories during the tutorial.
Step 1:
Take the white cotton thread and tie a knot on the warp beam (the part at the top and bottom of the loom is called the warp beam). Then thread straight across, up and down again, etc. Throughout the warp-thread assembly, tension must be maintained to keep the thread straight.

Finish with a knot.

Step 2:
Take the navette and make 3 turns with the wool. Leave a little wool running and cut.

Step 3:
Pass the navette, every other thread (top, bottom, top, bottom to the end).

Step 4:
Do the return in reverse, i.e. finish the row underneath as shown in the photo below. Start again in the other direction: top, then bottom, top, bottom, top to the end.

Step 5 :
Take the comb and slide the wool through to obtain straight rows.
Tip: always start your weaving with 3 rows, so that the bangs hold well and save time when finishing.

Step 6 :
Prepare your bangs: keep the same wool and cut 18 lengths of about 45 cm.

Step 7:
Once the bangs are ready, position a strand of wool facing you on the loom. Pull the strand out from underneath, first to the right, then to the left. Then pull gently downwards.

Step 8:
Place the fringe on the weave already in place. Repeat to the end.

Step 9:
Take the powder-pink wool, do as with the red, and here, make 4 turns of the navette. Leave a little wool running and cut.

Step 10 :
Make 4 rows.

Then 3 bangs in the center.

Step 11:
Take the white wool and make 3 rows, here using the thick wool thread puller.

Step 12:
Then take the needle and DMC thread, here it's a large ball, but one skein is enough.

Step 13:
Make 4 rows, always in the same way, underneath on top, etc.
Be careful not to pull too much when you return the weave, so that it doesn't belly up like this )-( but stays straight I-I )

Step 14:
Take up the red wool and do a variation here: go under 1 thread then over 3 threads, etc. for the following rows, shift 1 thread each time.

Step 15:
Continue with powder pink (6 rows).

Step 16:
Then make 3 coppery bangs on opposite sides.

Step 17:
Make one row with the suede lace, then 2 rows with the copper and finally the suede.

Step 18:
We're about to tackle the finishing touches: lift the bangs. Cut the thread and tie it in a double knot ( without forcing it, placing the knot delicately on the first row).

Step 19:
Then gently lift the weave from the loom.

Step 20:
Insert a piece of wood.

Step 21:
Find the weave and make (double) knots.

Here's the back, taking shape!

Step 22:
Using a crochet hook, gently tuck in the wool, then, once it's all tucked in, cut.

And there you have it!
