8 DIY jewelry ideas with a bandana
In summary

The bandana invites itself into jewelry design with trendy necklaces, bracelets and grigris. You can choose from several styles, such as the braided necklace in amethyst and silver, or the double-turn bracelet, each offering unique personalization to sublimate your outfits. The wide range of options allows you to satisfy your creative desires while adding a bohemian touch to your look.

The bandana is making a big comeback in the world of jewelry design! This iconic accessory from the 2000s is being reinvented as bohemian necklaces, braided bracelets, and colorful charms. Discover 8 creative ideas for transforming your bandanas into trendy jewelry that will enhance your looks in both summer and winter!

1. Braided bandana necklace styled like a charm necklace

Want to make summer last a little longer? This boho-chic necklace is a bandana-inspired piece that combines woven fabric with natural stones for a one-of-a-kind look.

The winning combination: a silk ribbon and a cotton bandana. Braid them together and enhance the look with a gemstone and 925 Sterling Silver charms (totem bird, cactus, protective hand). A piece of jewelry that exudes the vibe of Ibiza and the bohemian spirit!

Personalization tip: Be bold with prints, textures, and color combinations. Fabric braiding lets you express your full creativity.

2. Bag charm with a bandana and an XXL dachshund pendant

Turn your bag into a true work of art with this ultra-cute charm! A dachshund pendant, colorful pom-poms, and a mini bandana come together to create a 100% personalized accessory.

How to make it?

  • Thread your bandana strip through a keychain ring.
  • Add some large-hole beads.
  • Attach a chain with your favorite charms, and finish with fabric tassels.

Simple, quick, and the result is gorgeous! All that’s left to do is hang it from a tote bag or a purse.

3. Colorful bandana bracelet with a gold chain

The perfect mix of fabric and metal! This boho bracelet features a bandana strip threaded through a wide stainless steel chain.

Tip: Tear your square of fabric by hand after making a small cut with scissors. Then thread it through the chain links, alternating the direction. Add star charms and heart-shaped sequins to personalize it!

Silver version available: follow the same steps with a silver chain for a more understated look.

4. Orange bandana necklace with beaded accents

The bandana trend is all about wearing it around your neck! This necklace takes just 20 minutes to assemble and requires only a few supplies. It’s the perfect way to create a simple, colorful, and effortlessly customizable bandana necklace.

Here’s how: Cut your cotton bandana along the grain and fold it to form a ribbon. Thread on beaded beads and jump rings, then finish with a pendant. The result? A unique necklace that’s perfect for wearing on its own or layered with others!

Who’s it for? Ideal for beginners who want to get into DIY jewelry without overcomplicating things.

5. Bandana Bracelet with Charms

The bandana bracelet in an ultra-trendy double-wrap style! This tutorial shows you two techniques for customizing your wrist and adding a touch of charm to your outfits.

Braided version: alternate two fabric colors (purple and fuchsia here) to create a multi-strand braid. Add charms (palm tree, heart, chili pepper) and large-hole beads for volume. Perfect for a casual yet polished look.

Knotted version: Using a single bandana, tie knots spaced at regular intervals, slipping twisted rings between each knot. Simple but super effective!

6. Women’s bandana necklace with sun pendant

Three ways to make a necklace in a single tutorial! This creative project teaches you how to transform your bandana into a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry.

  • Version 1: Thin, braided strips threaded through a chunky chain for a contrasting, modern look.
  • Version 2: Wide strips folded like bias tape, tied together with charms to create a bandana charm necklace.
  • Version 3: a wide strip attached to a chunky chain with a central sun pendant for a clasp-free long necklace that’s easy to slip on.

The best part? These three versions use the same basic technique but offer completely different looks!

7. Colorful bag charm with a bandana and charms

The "summer vibes" version of the bag charm! This vibrant charm combines two braided bandanas with colorful charms.

The secret to success: Cut strips from two bandanas of different colors (yellow and pink, for example) and braid them together. Then add a screw-on clasp along with all your charms (dragon fruit, chili pepper, “LOVE” medallion).

Gift idea: This handmade bag charm is the perfect gift. It’s easy to make, affordable, and always appreciated!

8. Easy bracelet with a bee charm

Another idea for wearing a bandana around your wrist. This DIY bracelet shows you how to turn it into a personalized wrist accessory.

Folding technique: Iron your fabric and fold the edges to form a smaller square. Roll it into a triangle, then sew a chain to the ends. Add your favorite charms (bee, flower, daisy...) for a piece of jewelry that’s 100% you!

Bonus: the bandana charm bracelet!
Super trendy, this version of the bandana—worn around the neck—is sure to become a must-have accessory of the moment.

Fold the bandana in half. Use rivets to secure the edges of the bandana, then hang small charms from them. And there you have it—a bandana with charms!

So, are you ready to put your bandana collection to work creating timeless accessories you can wear all year round?

How do I cut a bandana?

The golden rule: always cut straight! How to recognize it? Grab two edges face to face and pull, then do the same with the other two edges. The straight edge is the least elastic direction of the fabric. This technique prevents your fabric from fraying too quickly.

Can you wash bandana jewelry?

Better to clean gently by hand with a damp cloth. Bandanas are made of cotton and can withstand water, but metal clasps and charms can tarnish. To keep your jewelry looking beautiful longer, remove it before showering or swimming.
