How many beads should I use to set a Peyote cabochon?

Made by : Perles & Co
Published on the :07/10/2015
In summary

To set a cabochon, the table provided indicates the number of Miyuki Delica 11/0 beads needed based on the cabochon's size. Note that this number may vary depending on the weaving technique and the size of the beads; an even number is recommended for optimal setting.

Are you wondering how many beads you need for the setting of a particular cabochon? Here is a chart showing the number of Miyuki Delica 11/0 beads needed for the setting of a cabochon.

This chart provides a rough estimate of the number of Miyuki Delica beads needed, but the actual number required may vary slightly due to tension during weaving or the size of the Delica beads used, which can differ very slightly from one piece to another. Thanks to “L’atelier de Laulo” for this chart.

Note that this type of setting is done using the circular peyote stitch, and this technique always starts with an even number of beads. A " star setting" is when the number of Delica beads is divisible by 4. Here’s an example tutorial featuring a star setting: Earrings with Purecrystal cabochons.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Cut 1 m of thread and thread it onto a size 12 needle. Thread the required number of Delica 11/0 beads according to the size of the cabochon. This number corresponds to rows 1 and 2 of the circular Peyote weave. Thread through the first bead.

Step 2

Complete row 3 of the weave by threading a new Delica 11/0 bead through the next bead. Tighten and replace the beads side by side. Continue until you've completed the round. At the end of the round, pass through the bead you're supposed to pass through, but also through the first bead threaded in row 3, to position your thread in the right place to start row 4.

Step 3

Weave row 4, adding a Delica 11/0 bead to each hole formed by row 5. Again, at the end of the round, weave in the first bead threaded in row 4.

Step 4

Repeat step 3 twice, this time using 15/0 seed beads.

Step 5

Glue the cabochon into the crimp to facilitate further crimping. Be careful not to apply too much glue, as this will block your pearls.

Step 6

Pass your thread through the weave to crimp the other side of the cabochon with 15/0 seed beads or, alternatively, add at least one row of Delica 11/0 and sew your crimp to a backing such as suede or felt.

Bonjour, le mieux est de faire des test en enfilant les perles, jusqu'à ce qu'elle fasse un peu moins du tour du cabochon.
