How do you make your mounting rings? Making a cannetille

Made by :Lucie T Perles&Co

Rings are essential primers for creating DIY jewelry. But sometimes it's hard to find the perfect ring. The diameter of the wire or the diameter of the ring is either too small or too large, or maybe you're missing rings and just don't have the time to order to finish your creation... Don't panic! You can make your own rings using the canetille technique.

How to make rings yourself ? The technique of the cannetille in jewelry

This method of making rings requires very little equipment. You will need a boc-wire, a metal wire, a hand vise, a pin whose size corresponds to the diameter of the rings you want to make and cutting pliers.
In our video tutorial, Lucie shows you how to make solid open rings easily and in a very short time. Find below the different steps to learn how to master the cannetille technique.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Install a pin, such as a drill bit, in your hand vise. Choose the shaft you will use according to the diameter of the ring you want to make.
Instead of a vise, you can also use the jump ring maker.

Step 2

Cut a piece of wire and block it with your axle, then screw until the two elements are perfectly maintained.

Step 3

Wrap your wire around the axis. Tighten it with your fingers, the wire should be tight. The number of turns corresponds to the number of mounting rings you want.
To go faster, you can also turn the vise.

Step 4

When you feel that the cannetille is long enough, cut the thread with the pliers. Your sprue looks like a spring.

Step 5

Position it on the jeweler's peg before sawing it with a bocil.

Step 6

Pull up slowly, then down to get a good grip with the teeth of the saw. Be sure to stay upright while sawing (watch your fingers!).
The rings will come off little by little.

Now your rings are ready! You will be able to make your costume jewelry from A to Z and hang whatever you want: charms, pendants, clasps ...

Merci
