Forming a pigtail loop on a jewelry nail or pin is the key to creating DIY costume jewelry. This essential technique allows you to hang beads on a chain, create pendants and charms, or make beautiful dangling earrings.
You can choose between the simple loop or the pigtail loop. The pigtail earring is stronger. It will hold up better, especially on jewelry that is under a lot of stress. It is this pigtail ring that we suggest you make in our video.

There are four types of jewelry nails:
We find these nails in various materials such as silver 925, stainless steel, brass, gold-plated, gold-filled ... The stainless steel will be the most resistant to torsion, you will need a good pair of pliers to work it.
Choose your nails according to the material and the color of your jewel, but also according to the diameter of the hole of your pearls.
Be careful the shank must go through without encountering any obstacles and the head must stop the bead (and not go through!).
To make a charm or a pendant, choose a ball head nail, a fancy nail or a flat head nail.
To make a spacer, choose a round head nail.
Thread the bead onto the nail. (0:44)
Using the round tip pliers, make a 90° angle just past the bead. (0:56)
Wrap the wire around the clip, which will form a loop. (1:03)
Use a flat-tipped pliers preferably to wrap the wire. (1:20)
Once you have made several turns, come and cut the excess wire flush with a wire cutter. (1:59)
Crush the protruding stem end with the flat pliers to nestle it under the ring. Your pigtail is ready! (2:19)
