We're bringing back one of the summer hits of many years, the Brazilian bracelet, or friendship bracelet. This flat, striped Brazilian bracelet tutorial will enable young and old alike to learn how to weave their own bracelet in preparation for back-to-school.
The bracelet shown features five different colors, but can be created with any number of colors. The number of colors used will also define the width of the bracelet. The more colors we choose, the wider the bracelet will be. The yarns used for this type of bracelet are molded cotton yarns; you can also find the list of yarns that can be used on the technical data sheet explaining which yarn to choose.
Friendship bracelets are often the easiest to make because the knot used is the same throughout the work, and here we use a right-side knot. You'll find an explanation of how to make the knot on the specialized sheet on knotting techniques for Brazilian bracelets. Beginner patterns include the stripe pattern presented in this tutorial, which uses only right-side knots, and the chevron pattern, which uses both right-side and reverse knots.
Brazilian bracelets are often considered lucky charms. The closure shown in this tutorial with two braids tied with a double knot secures the bracelet and keeps it on your wrist for a very long time.
