Brazilian bracelet tutorial with chevron pattern

How to make a brazilian bracelet step by step ?

As summer approaches, the Brazilian bracelet is making a comeback! This colorful bracelet, also called friendship bracelet, is still very popular with children, but also with men and women. This braided jewel is synonymous with vacations, beach and idleness. We love having it on our wrist. The ideal is even to wear several DIY bracelets with different designs.

In this easy tutorial, I propose to make a Brazilian bracelet with a chevron or V pattern. Easy to make, you have to make knots on the right side and knots on the left side. To practice, feel free to consult our technical sheet to learn how to make a Brazilian bracelet knot.

Which thread for Brazilian bracelets? Take a cotton skein or a waxed thread like Linhasita thread. As for the colors, it's up to you! For this herringbone Brazilian bracelet, I took 8 strands of Brazilian cotton bracelet yarn, so I would have a bracelet with 4 colors.

To tie this 4 color chevron Brazilian bracelet, tie it directly on the wrist by making a double knot with the ends. Traditionally, the person who receives this friendship bracelet must make a wish and not take it off. The bracelet will come off by itself when the threads break due to wear. It is then said that the wish will come true at that time.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Cut about 80 cm of yarn each. Tie your threads together.

Step 2
Brazilian bracelet tutorial with chevron pattern : Step 2

Use masking tape, for example, to attach your threads to a table.
Then arrange your wires so that they are opposite each other; each of your colors must be divided into two parts, symmetrically. (example here: light yellow, red, dark yellow, orange, orange, dark yellow, red, light yellow)

The threads overlap but don't worry, as soon as you make your first row, the threads will instantly be in order.
The first row will be the least beautiful of all, but as you knot your next rows it will improve a little bit.

Tip: When you tie your knots, be careful not to snag the threads next to you, especially when you make your first row.

Step 3

The Brazilian chevron bracelet has two parts: your 1st strands on the left where you will make right-side up knots, your other strands on the right where you will make reverse knots.
To show you better, I moved the bracelet forward a bit, but the following steps are exactly the same for the 1st "row" of the bracelet.

Make a reverse knot: Take the right-most thread, the last one. Pull it over the previous one. Here the yellow one: it forms a 4 in reverse.

Step 4

Pass your last thread, red, back inside the 4, passing underneath, this time, your previous thread, yellow.

Step 5

Now grab the end of your red wire and pull it tight. Your yellow wire stays still, so the knot forms around it.

Step 6
Brazilian bracelet tutorial with chevron pattern : Step 6

Repeat steps 3-4-5, always using the same two threads.

Caution : No matter what your design, the knots must be made in duplicate on the same thread.

Step 7
Brazilian bracelet tutorial with chevron pattern : Step 7

Repeat steps 3-4-5 again, twice in the same order but with different threads. This time, however, stop in the middle of your threads (in this case at the light yellow thread). You know this is the center of your threads, because if you have followed the symmetry, you should have two threads of the same color next to it. That's when you have to stop, don't tie a knot on the second thread of the same color.

Then, with your last thread, make knots upside down around the other threads, one after the other (2 times around the light pink, and 2 times around the light yellow).

Step 8
Brazilian bracelet tutorial with chevron pattern : Step 8

Your red thread is now in the center of your threads. Your 1st row is finished when your 1st thread is on the right, you have made knots around each of your threads.

Step 9
Brazilian bracelet tutorial with chevron pattern : Step 9

Now knot the threads on the left. Tie your 1st red thread on the others with knots on the right side this time.

Step 10
Brazilian bracelet tutorial with chevron pattern : Step 10

Now you have your 2 threads of the same color, red, in the center. Tie them together to make the point of the chevron, with a knot at the right side.

Step 11
Brazilian bracelet tutorial with chevron pattern : Step 11

Repeat these steps, remembering to make right-side knots on the left-hand threads and reverse knots on the right-hand threads. Continue until you get all the way around your wrist (or ankle ...).

Step 12
Brazilian bracelet tutorial with chevron pattern : Step 12

Once your bracelet is finished, tie all the threads together.

Step 13
Brazilian bracelet tutorial with chevron pattern : Step 13

This time, no clasp. Originally, the Brazilian bracelet was attached directly to the wrist, like a friendship bracelet, without the possibility of removing it.
To do this, take the ends of your bracelet, put the bracelet on your wrist and make a double knot. Add a dot of glue and trim any protruding wires.

Your bracelet is ready!
