How to make a bracelet with a stainless steel chain?

Stainless steel is a durable metal. As its name suggests, it does not oxidize, does not rust, is hypoallergenic and very strong. This makes it the ideal metal for your jewelry creations. Stainless steel jewelry is also the perfect gift that will be kept for decades. In this video, we offer you 4 models of stainless steel bracelets. Two of them are sold as is and ready to be worn. The realization of the two other bracelets is presented in video.

They are composed of a stainless steel chain and spacers. The first bracelet has a gearbox spacer and the second bracelet is made with lucky eye spacers. You will also need a clasp and connecting rings. Both of these bracelets are easy to make, but you will need strong pliers and a little strength in your hands, as steel is hard to bend.

These 4 bracelets have 3 different styles of stainless steel chain. The chain is used for the two handmade bracelets:

  • Forçat chain
  • Serpentine chain
  • Rectangular mesh chain

When creating a bracelet, you need to allow for 2 cm of clearance in addition to the size of the wrist. So if you want to create a bracelet for a 15 cm wrist, you will have to make a 17 cm bracelet including the clasp. Generally, men's bracelets are not worn close to the wrist, so be sure to respect this measurement.

Want to use other stainless steel spacers? We have several designs available as well as a large number of gold plated stainless steel primers and chains. Find in our store all the stainless steel jewelry supplies.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Bracelet n°1 :

For an 18 cm wrist, allow 16.5 cm of chain. The links are open, so you don't need to cut the chain.

Open the chain links to add the clasp.

Next, place the spacer in the center. Split the chain in two, and look for the center link. Slide on the gearshift spacer.

Step 2

Bracelet n°2 :

Place the eye pattern spacers to see the length of chain required. Try to spread them out to see how much space they'll take up. Each spacer is about 3 rings wide. So for each spacer, subtract 3 rings from the total length of the chain.

Don't forget to count the length of the snap hook before cutting the chain: it's 10 mm, so start from 19 cm on my ruler and remove 18 stitches.

Assemble all elements using open rings.

Bonjour, peut on ajouter une chaîne d'extension pour éviter de devoir recouper le bracelet à la taille exacte du poignet?
