How to make a gemstone necklace?

To make a gemstone necklace, you can use thick nylon thread such as fishing line, but it's better to use wired thread, which is more resistant to friction. For this type of jewelry, choose a cabled wire that matches the weight and hole size of the beads. In this DIY jewelry tutorial, the pierced Amazonite stones are very heavy and have a 1 mm hole. We can therefore use a thick wire. In this tutorial, we've used a 0.46 mm wire so that it passes easily through the ferrules, but you can use a 0.6 mm wire as well.

The collar needs little flexibility, so a 7-strand cable will suffice. As a reminder, the more strands there are in a cabled wire, the more flexible it will be.

The assembly tray is a very useful tool when making necklaces and bracelets. You can easily visualize how your necklace will look, and move the beads around until you like what you see. It also gives you an idea of the length of the necklace while making a symmetrical necklace. It's a huge time-saver, as you won't have to undo your necklace if it doesn't suit you.
