Tutorial steps

Step 1
Round wall weaving by Julie Robert : Step 1

For the warp thread, use DMC's Coton Natura XL. Tie a first knot, then work your way up to make a line that cuts the circle perfectly in 2 (take care to respect this step to ensure correct positioning of the warp threads).

Then go under the circle and down to the right. Pass under the circle again, going back up to the left, and work your way around, repeating the operation to the starting point and tying a knot.

Make a few turns to secure the middle. Pass with the needle 2 up, 2 down to the starting point, continuing the operation as many times as you like (here 4 rows).

Step 2

Tip from the designer:

In the same way as weaving on a wooden frame, when you start a new row, you must always be opposite the previous one. In the round, this isn't easy, so the trick is to make sure that once you've reached the starting point, you start again in reverse (you started on top, you'll start underneath, etc.).

Step 3

Start weaving the different wools.

Using a wool needle, weave the Fashion Gigantic Mohair wool.

Step 4

Next, use Essentials Alpaca Blend Chunky wool in a medium-gray color to make curls.

How do I make curls in a wool wall weave?

To add volume to classic wool, triple or quadruple the basic length. Run the wool through the top passages, creating "curls".

Step 5

Next, use the ivory-colored XXL wicking wool and pass it through by hand, again bringing out the volume.

Pass 2 underlays 2 underlays on top of the previous row and vary the colors, paying attention to the row before (lots of repetition, but essential for a satisfactory result).

Step 6

Next, you'll use the silk ribbon.

Then alternate with Essentials Alpaca Blend Chunky wool in old rose.

Step 8
Round wall weaving by Julie Robert : Step 8

For this weave, Julie wanted to split the weave in two to create movement only on the top half of the weave.

From now on, weave the lower half of the circle with essentials super super chunky wool in mint.

Step 9

Finish your weaving with Fashion Gigantic Mohair in cream by hand.

Step 10

Finishing with thick wools is a snap. All you have to do is wedge the wick and the other in the rows. Likewise, the thick wool can be knotted or ironed backwards in the rows.

Crystals: 2 ways to finish your wall weaving

Variation 1:

Sew crystals randomly onto the lower part using needle and thread.

Step 11

Variation 2:

Cut 3 threads for 3 crystals. Then tie them with knots at different lengths to create an asymmetrical movement.

Step 12
Round wall weaving by Julie Robert : Step 12

To make them stand out, you can combine them with wool by cutting 8 bangs and placing them around the crystal threads.

How to make bangs with wool?

For bangs (Fashion gigantic Mohair wool): measure bangs, fold in 2, cut. Be sure to cut all bangs in advance. To hang them on the metal ring, you'll need to make lark's head knots:

  • Fold a strand in 2, place the loop on the circle,
  • Take the ends of the bangs and pass them under the circle, bringing them out through the loop.

Repeat with all the bangs.
