With the arrival of fall, gemstones find their way into our designs with their deep, luminous, and natural colors. In this tutorial, learn how to make a birthstone and gold-plated stainless steelcharm necklace —a delicate, colorful piece of jewelry that you can customize to your heart’s content.
The concept is simple: a thin gold chain is adorned with small charms and birthstone charms in a variety of colors. Pink, purple, green, or warmer shades—choose the stones you like best or those that correspond to your birth month and those of your loved ones.

Make 5 mini chains, each with 9 links.
To do this, use two pliers to open the 10th link of the chain, then remove it to create a small chain with 9 links.
Repeat this process 4 more times to make 5 mini chains in total.
You can, of course, adjust the length of each mini-chain depending on the look you want for your necklace.
Now you’ll attach all the elements to the necklace using open jump rings.
Start by attaching a mini chain to the center of the necklace. Open a jump ring with two pliers, slide the mini chain and the necklace chain through it, then carefully close the jump ring. This first mini chain will serve as your central axis.
Next, start at one end of the necklace and attach the following elements every 4 links along the necklace: a 4-mm mini ball charm, a birthstone charm, and a round hammered charm. Next, add another mini chain, then repeat the same sequence: a 4-mm mini ball charm, a birthstone charm, and a hammered round charm. Repeat this alternating pattern one more time to finish the first side of the necklace.
Repeat the same assembly on the other side of the necklace, always starting with a 4 mm mini ball charm.
Be sure to maintain the same spacing and order of the elements to ensure the necklace is symmetrical.
Your necklace is finished!
You can use the same birthstone for all the charms or choose several stones corresponding to the birth months of your loved ones.
