How to weave a beaded bracelet with elastic thread?

We tested for you the weaving of beads with elastic thread. For this first test, here is a video tutorial of a beaded bracelet woven with elastic thread and the RAW technique. RAW stands for Right Angle Weave. If you are a beginner in bead weaving, we advise you to do only the first row of the bracelet. The second row is more complicated, and above all, you have to be very careful how you pass the needle through the beads so as not to damage the thread which frays easily. If your thread frays too quickly, you will have to tie it with a double knot and glue and then take a new thread. This step is not suitable for beginners.

The first row needs to be tightened a little more than shown in the video, because the second row is very tight and this creates a gap between the two rows. In conclusion, RAW weaving with elastic yarn is possible, but not easy. The yarn frays easily from the second round on, but can be used without any problem for the first round with two needles.

We used very thin needles with a soft eye. They allow us to thread a 0.25 mm elastic thread through the hole of the beads without adding thickness.

This technique can be done with other types of beads. We have for example this tutorial, that we advise you not to make with elastic wire though: Preciosa and Mix Miyuki delicas pearl bracelet.

PS: If you have a large wrist, take an extra bag of beads to be sure. You need about 235 beads to make a 16,5 cm bracelet, so for a 15 or 15,5 cm wrist. You need to add about 15 beads per centimeter.

Bonjour !
