DIY: Knitted computer pouch

This tutorial will allow you to make a nice computer storage pouch.

The dimensions are those of a 14-inch laptop: 33cm x 23cm x 2cm. While knowing that it is slightly expandable. For a smaller or larger device you will simply need to adapt the number of meshes and the number of rows.

It is a rather simple realization which requires only knitted bases. A help video will be at your disposal for all the "technical" steps such as knitting the stitches, inserting beads, reductions for the flap...etc.

It's a great idea for a handmade gift for the holidays or just to treat yourself!

Of course, I am at your disposal if you need me.

Enjoy!

Barbara

Tutorial steps

Step 1

The pouch is an alternation of rows of jersey place and rice stitch. The pearls are integrated in the jersey parts on the back of the work.

Start by mounting 41 stitches on your 7mm needle by taking the 2 threads at the same time: Wool + gold thread. Be careful not to lose the golden thread on the way.

Step 2

Knit 6 rows at the rice stitch: Always alternate one stitch on the right side followed by a reverse stitch.

Step 3

From row 7 to row 12, knit in jersey right side without integrating pearls: this part will be hidden by the flap of the pocket.

From row 13 to row 18, knit in rice stitch.

Step 4

From row 19 to row 21 knit in jersey right side.

In row 22 (you are on the wrong side of the work, the whole row in reverse stitch), you are going to integrate 5 pearls thanks to your crochet. At the place where you have to integrate your pearl, insert it on the hook, slide it over your stitch and then replace this stitch on the left needle. Then knit the stitch normally. This technique is explained in the video. For the distribution of the beads : *knit 6 stitches, insert one bead on the next and knit it* Repeat from * to * until there are only 6 stitches left: knit them normally.

From row 23 to row 24, knit the right side jersey.

Step 5

Slide it over your stitch and then put it back on the left needle. Then knit the stitch normally. This technique is explained in the video. For the distribution of the beads : * Knit 6 stitches, insert one bead on top of the next and knit it* Repeat from * to * until there are only 6 stitches left: Knit them normally. From row 23 to row 24: Knit in jersey right side.

Step 6

At this stage you will form your pouch by matching the patterns and sewing on both sides with a discreet "invisible knit seam" if possible.

Step 7

Sew the 2 buttons on your pocket on the right side. Be careful not to sew them on the flap.

Step 8

To create the tassels that will serve as a link between the flap and the buttons, cut a 30 cm woollen thread, 5 22 cm woollen threads and 10 22 cm gold threads.*

Step 9

Position the smaller ones perpendicular to the larger ones and tie a knot.

Step 10
Chic knitted computer pouch with metal bead and gold thread insert : Step 10

Position your buttons so that they arrive at the bottom of your flap when your pouch is in the "closed" position.

Step 11
Chic knitted computer pouch with metal bead and gold thread insert : Step 11

Position the smaller ones perpendicular to the larger ones and tie a knot.

Step 12
Chic knitted computer pouch with metal bead and gold thread insert : Step 12

Wrap golden thread around your pom-pom and cut off the ends to even out the pom-pom.

Create a second identical tassel.

Step 13
Chic knitted computer pouch with metal bead and gold thread insert : Step 13

Attach the pompom to the bottom of the flap, matching the position of the button. They must be aligned vertically.

Step 14
Chic knitted computer pouch with metal bead and gold thread insert : Step 14

From row 99, you will start the reductions to create the flap. Decreases are only done on the odd rows at the beginning and end of the row.

Row 99: A single overcast, all stitches right-side up and end with 2 stitches together right-side down. [You get 39 stitches on the needle]

Rank 100: all meshes upside down

Rank 101: Same as rank 99 [37 mesh]

Rank 102: Knit 4 stitches backwards, insert a bead on the next one and *knit 6 stitches, insert a bead on the next one and knit it* Repeat from * to * until there are only 4 stitches left: knit them normally backwards.

Rank 103: Same as rank 99 [35 stitches].

Rank 104: Same as rank 100
