Polymer crystal placeholder

Create an original place mark using polymer clay to imitate cluster crystals into which you will slide a small card with the guest's first name.

Tutorial steps

Step 1
Polymer crystal placeholder : Step 1

Take half of the pink quartz and translucent dough loaves. Divide them again in two parts, mix together the quartz and the translucent, leave the others.

Step 2
Polymer crystal placeholder : Step 2

Crumble all the colours with your fingers, space the pieces on your support.

Step 3
Polymer crystal placeholder : Step 3

Crumble some gold leaf on top of your mixture, put some white acrylic on some pieces of pasta.

Step 4
Polymer crystal placeholder : Step 4

Gather the fragments by pressing the dough together to obtain strands of different lengths and widths.

Step 5
Polymer crystal placeholder : Step 5

Roll the cylinders on your support and then roll it over all sides to create rectangles.

Step 6
Polymer crystal placeholder : Step 6

Cut the angles formed with a blade along the length, then cut a point at one end and a straight cut at the other end.

Step 7
Polymer crystal placeholder : Step 7

Take the longest length so that you can work around it with the other crystals. To fix them at the first end, you must cut them at the base in a bevelled shape, then press to make them adhere without deforming them. Chop with your blade the rest of the pasta pieces.

Step 8
Polymer crystal placeholder : Step 8

Once your cluster of crystals is harmonious you can put the chopped pieces at the base and put a few between the crystals. The amount of dough used is used to make two placemats.

Step 9
Polymer crystal placeholder : Step 9

To prevent the bunch from deforming during cooking, you will cook it in a hollow container filled with baking soda. The polymer should be covered as much as possible by gathering the grains all around. Bake for 30 minutes at 120 degrees.

Step 10
Polymer crystal placeholder : Step 10

Soak your parts in water to remove the bicarbonate. Pass a thin film of varnish to bring out the transparencies, then add a few fine flakes.
