Foliage silkscreen earrings

Prepare a sheet of white clay after running your polymer clay through the clay machine (notch number 5 on the Impéria machine). Place your silkscreen number one on the polymer clay, roll it out to expel any air and apply your first color. Don't forget to wash your silkscreen under running water with soap.

Wait 10 minutes for the first applied paint to dry before applying silkscreen number two and a second color.

Switch to screen number 3 with a different color. The corners of each screen are visible through the silkscreen.

Move on to the fourth color and the last screen to obtain your complete design. Leave to dry.

Here's the result of successive applications of paint on a white background, a black background and, lastly, the red is Sculpey Pomegranate Red paste.

Cut your sheets widthwise to obtain 1.5 to 2 cm strips.

Place your cookie cutter flush with the bottom of your strip and cut 2 pieces from it using the same cookie cutter, either the 2.5 cm hexagon or the 3 cm round.

Place a diamond-shaped golden primer in the center of your pieces. Place parchment paper on top, then use a card to press the primer in and level it with the dough. Remove the paper, then use a scalpel to hollow out the inside of the metal hexagon. Leave the primer in place to bake in a conventional oven at 120 degrees for 30 minutes.

Sand the edges of your workpieces with 1000-grit sandpaper to round off any corners. Be careful not to sand off any acrylic paint that has been applied, as this will peel off immediately.

Applying acrylic paints to polymer clay requires protection of the pieces once fired. You can achieve a natural, discreet finish by applying a spray varnish, available in matte, satin or gloss.
We have chosen to apply a UV Led resin finish to all the earrings. Remove the metal primer, pour some resin onto the surface of your earrings, spread with a toothpick to the edges of the pieces, put a little resin where the metal piece is wedged. Put the primer back in its place, position your UV lamp on top and turn it on twice consecutively. In the same way, you need to resinate the underside of all your loops, otherwise the shrinkage of the resin when it catalyses will cause the thin polymer parts to curve.

We've chosen to mount our earrings with either 4 mm ball studs or studs with a gold bar. Simply open the ring of your stud earrings and pass it through the metal hexagon, then close your ring.
