How to decorate your Christmas tree?
In summary

For a perfectly decorated Christmas tree, place it in a central location, away from windows and heat sources. Start by putting up garlands of lights, then add baubles and hanging lights, preferably larger ones, and finish with a star. Don't forget to hide the foot of the tree with false presents or a festive fabric for a harmonious look.

How to decorate a Christmas tree ?

Before you even start arranging your Christmas tree decorations, there's an essential question: where should you place your Christmas tree? Usually, it's placed in the living room or dining room, where everyone gathers to celebrate the holidays. Choose a spot far from a window or door to avoid blocking openings, and far from a source of heat to avoid damaging the tree.
If your Christmas tree is small, don't hesitate to raise it on a piece of furniture or a table so that everyone can see it. On the other hand, if it's large, place it in a corner to clear the space.

Once the Christmas tree has been set up, check the equipment used in previous years: make sure the baubles aren't damaged, and that the lights are working properly. All that's left is to make the missing decorations yourself... and, of course, they'll be 100% DIY!

Need some inspiration? Here are our tips and tricks, as well as a few ideas for top-of-the-range tree decoration!

Garlands and lights

Start by putting up the lights, then the garlands. Arrange them evenly from top to bottom.
Electric garlands are a must, but non-illuminated garlands are an option. If you choose homemade tinsel, the creative possibilities are immense.

How do I make homemade Christmas lights?

  • Make natural garlands. Collect pine cones on a walk. When you get home, remove any impurities and hang them together with natural fiber rope or glue. Now you've got a zero-waste Christmas decoration to die for. You can add a splash of color by painting a few pine cones with Christmas paint and glitter, or adding colorful bows made from ribbon.
  • Create paper ring garlands. Cut strips of colored paper. Glue the ends together to form a link. Slide a second strip through the first ring to form a second link, securing it with glue. Continue until you have the length of garland you want. Here's a manual activity for the whole family!
  • Make Christmas garlands with sweets. You can thread popcorn with a needle or star-shaped shortbread onto a string. But watch out for the greedy ones - they'll devour everything and ruin your decor!
  • Make a garland of beads for a chic Christmas decoration. Choose fairly large resin beads, which are less likely to be damaged if dropped.
  • Create Christmas shapes with polymer clay or self-hardening dough and assemble them by sliding them onto a ribbon. Choose colors reminiscent of Christmas, or add glitter to make your garland sparkle! You can even use silkscreens to make pretty Christmas patterns.

Baubles and hanging lights

Continue decorating your Christmas tree by adding baubles and hanging baskets of all kinds. Place the baubles and hanging baskets, starting with the largest and finishing with the smaller ornaments. The rule is to start at the bottom of the tree, on the diagonal, to distribute them evenly.

Create resin hangers or beaded stars. Use UV Led resin to create attractive hanging ornaments. Everyone can make their own, making your Christmas tree personalized and highly original.
Get the whole family involved, and everyone can hang their own creation from the branches of the Christmas tree. Decorating the tree is always a great family moment!

Top of the tree

This is the final touch to your tree decoration. It needs to be grandiose, because it's the centerpiece that your guests will see first.

How to decorate the top of the tree?

Traditionally, the Christmas star is placed at the top of the tree. It can be made of macramé, beads or even lights!

You can also leave the star in the cupboard and switch to a more original tree top.

  • Pine cones,
  • Feathers,
  • A wreath,
  • Christmas bonnet or hat,
  • Large bow-shaped ribbon.

The foot of the tree

Once all the Christmas decorations are in place, think about the foot of your tree. It's not the prettiest part of the Christmas tree, and it's often the most neglected. And for good reason: you never quite know what to do with it.

How do you hide the bottom of your tree?

  • Place fake wrapped presents at its feet.
  • Place it in a flowerpot or trapilho basket.
  • Cover the base with Christmas fabric, burlap, tartan or a plain fabric to avoid overloading it.

Whether it's a natural or an artificial tree, the foot of the tree should be decorated in a sober manner, so as not to overshadow the Christmas decorations you've just carefully arranged on the tree.
