10 good resolutions for creative people in 2024

A new year begins in the lovely month of January 2024. And a new year means new resolutions! Like us, you've started the year with good intentions and a furious desire to achieve new things... But you're not sure where to start? Don't worry, at Perles & Co we've put together a list of 10 good resolutions to make for this creative new year.

Are you ready? Here are our creative resolutions for 2024:

1. Go zero-waste

In 2024, it's decided: you choose to adopt a Zero Waste lifestyle! By shaking up your habits and reducing your waste, you become a little greener every day. It's not only good for the planet, but also for your quality of life and your wallet. Where to start? We try to apply the 3Rs principle as much as possible: reduce, reuse and recycle. Obviously, it's not possible to change everything at once, so you have to take things one step at a time.

Perhaps there are Zero Waste workshops in your town to guide you along the anti-waste path. Or why not organize and run your own workshops to encourage others to share your resolution.

  • Reduce

Bye bye plastic bags and boxes! Think about making your own pouches for gift-giving or bulk-buying to limit packaging. Make a net shopping bag and a lunch bag to take your lunch to work. How about a pie bag? Ideal when you're in charge of bringing dessert to a friend's house.
Are you also tempted by homemade cosmetics, but afraid to take the plunge? You'll take fewer risks if you start by making your own soap.

  • Reuse

In the bathroom: we replace our good old cotton pads with washable and reusable DIY make-up remover wipes, we make our own washable cloth sanitary towels...
In the kitchen: we're testing eco-friendly tawashi sponges and washablepaper towels, giving a second life to our jars for storing legumes, sweets, etc., using reusable tea bags, and covering our dishes with homemade beeswax wraps and charlottes couvres chefs. Do you like these first creations? If you'd like to discover other ideas, check out our Zero Waste tutorials.

2. Get organized

Between your creations, your sales, your posts on social networks and your daily routine (shopping, dentist appointments for the youngest, dance lessons for your youngest, etc.), it can be hard to get organized! To stop feeling overwhelmed, the one and only key is... ORGANIZATION. To-do lists, reminders, slates, corkboards... There are a thousand and one ways to get organized so you don't forget a thing.

And there's no point in doing everything you've written down on your to-do list in the first week of January: first of all, it's going to be very difficult to get it done, and secondly, you might even discourage yourself for the rest of the year.

So take a breath and invest in a 2024 diary, or bullet journal as you prefer. Customize your diary with the fabric of your choice to personalize as much as possible the one that will follow you every day in 2024.
Did Santa (or someone who knows you well) just slip a bullet journal under the tree? Just what you need! But you don't know where to start. We've got the solution with our 8 steps to starting your own bullet journal and the materials you'll need to customize it and express yourself all year long.

3. Make DIY gifts for your loved ones

Do you like to please and spoil your loved ones whenever you can? An alternative for 2024: make the gifts yourself. A DIY gift made with love and by your own little hands will be more personal and will have more sentimental value in the eyes of those to whom you give them.
If you're just starting out, find all our technical sheets to learn DIY and get off to a good start. You'll also find inspiration in our many DIY jewelry, accessories and home décor tutorials. Now all you have to do is get started and enjoy!

4. Dare (make new creations)

Is your sewing machine, patterns and needles all you see? How about a change of activity this year? We're not talking about changing everything, but about discovering other worlds and giving them a try. Knitting, embroidery, macramé, bead weaving, polymer clay, jewelry, resin... Maybe you'll discover a new passion, and if not, it'll still be a great experience.

5. Tidy up / Pamper your creative corner

Become the Marie Kondo of hobby tidying. Tidying up your personal space has only positive sides: it will help you get organized, find what you need quickly (especially that bag of Miyuki lost since 2018). It clears the mind and helps with concentration and creativity. Feeling discouraged by all the accumulated stuff? Don't panic, tidying up takes several days, but you'll quickly see the change and it will give you the desire and motivation to keep going.
Tiffanie, creator and designer at Perles & co, has several tidying-up ideas for you.
Find all our storage boxes and organizers to help you. You can also reuse the jars you've collected for your Zero Waste goal (remember resolution no. 1), which will come in very handy for storing your DIY materials.rangement diy

6. Go professional

You've been creating for years now, and all you get in return are compliments on the quality of your work... Maybe it's time to listen to your loved ones and follow that urge you've been repressing: 2024 is your year! This is the year when you'll get down to serious business and move into professional mode. Are you afraid of taking the plunge? It's perfectly normal. We've got you covered with tips from the pros.

7. Create in a group and share your creations

The year 2024 is all about creating and sharing. It's the perfect opportunity to invite all your friends for creative days. You can also join knitting or dressmaking clubs or creative workshops run by local associations or community centers. Creating together allows you to learn new techniques, improve your skills, share and compare, and meet new people...
Set aside some days in your new diary to devote to group creation, and your creativity will soar. Join our large community of creators who share new ideas with you every day on our Facebook page and our Instagram page.

8. Sew your first clothes

A perfectly fitting garment, colors that are right on trend and that you love, a dream that seems impossible? Well, it's not! In 2024, start creating your own clothes, the ones that really suit you and fit you like a glove. Find all our sewing books, sewing patterns and sewing tutorials to get you started and inspired. And you'll easily find what you're looking for in our wide selection of fabrics. The results will be superb!
In the same spirit, you can learn to knit or crochet fun clothes. And if you're caught up in knitting fever and you're not making enough, think about knitting for charity: knitting for a good cause and helping those in need.

9. Take time for yourself

A Sunday morning in January, a cup of tea, snuggled up under a blanket, a pretty message on your light box, some magazines to inspire you and quietly plan the week ahead... The perfect day, wouldn't you say? Hygge is a real art of living: enjoying the simple things in life and taking care of yourself and your loved ones.
