Creative interview with Julie Robert

Who is Julie Robert aka @julie_weaves? But who's behind the famous textile designer Julie Robert?

Today we're delighted to bring you an exclusive interview with the famous textile designerJulie Robert. Find out a little more about her personality through a few of our questions.

What do you love most of all?
My family!

What would you take with you to a desert island to keep you from getting bored?
Mmm! If I were like Tom Hanks, alone in the world, I'd take everything I needed to read and knit.
The former because I don't have enough time to do it anymore and I miss it, and the latter because I'm tearing my hair out to learn, so I'd have no excuse, once I'd read the books, I'd have to get on with it...!

Do you have a totally crazy and disproportionate but fully assumed addiction?
For threads It's a bit crazy, but I almost get anxious when I don't have enough threads in my shelves. As a result, I even buy just one ball of the color I'm missing (because I'm not a compulsive buyer either, far from it) to reassure myself in case I need it.

What's your proudest creation?
My giant installation for the PlayTime show, 4m wide of creations and 1m high...

What's your favorite creative technique?
I'd have to say weaving, despite my love of other techniques.

What's your favorite color scheme?
A mix of ecru/beige with hints of pink, mustard, gold, mint... Softness.

What's the one tool you can't live without?
A pair of scissors that cuts! It's silly, but you always need them in any situation!

Do you have a secret tip to share?
I share so much between tutorials and workshops that I confess, I have absolutely nothing to hide in terms of technique. It would be more about certain materials that I find while poking around and a few addresses that I keep to myself hihi.

What's your greatest source of inspiration?
My daily life, my peaceful life by the sea!

What's your favorite proverb or saying?
Ah, that's one I've used every time for years. No proverb or diction, but a quote from Xavier Dolan made during an interview in 2014: "Everything happens to those who dream, dare, work and never give up."
These words so aptly resonate with me as I left everything that same year to devote myself to textile art.

What are your current projects, apart from the arrival of your pitchouns?
Yes, the arrival of these 2 babies will be a radical change in my life, but I'm looking forward to it.
Otherwise, my current projects are unique, woven and "punched" pieces that I'll be selling before Christmas in my Etsy store.

Any advice for beginners? Or what not to do?
Find out about the technique before you start. Sometimes you want to buy all the materials because you like a designer's project, but you soon realize that it's not for you. Don't hesitate to watch videos and ask around if someone can give you a demo! And then go for it! A well-made decision, especially in yarn art as I do, is never a regrettable one; you get hooked pretty fast!!!!

A beautiful story!!! I met Audrey 3 years ago at the CSF trade show and 1 year later, I started doing a few tutorials for the site and for the press in connection with you. I still love working on projects in partnership and I think I'll be doing so for a long time to come, because we get on so well ;-)
