Est ce que je peux puncher avec de la laine ricorumi ?
Choosing the ideal punch needle for his project can be likened to a real obstacle course! Indeed, the sizes of the needles do not mean the same thing from one brand to another and to complicate matters, sometimes the size of the wool or yarn is indicated by number of hooks or needles used, sometimes by diameter in mm and sometimes it is not indicated at all!
We have tried to take stock of the different punch needles available on our site to help you see more clearly during a Facebook Live. This Live dates from 18 October 2019. Did you miss this live? Subscribe to our Facebook page and activate the notifications to be notified of our next lives!
The Oxford Needles Needles:

These are magic needles with a wooden handle not adjustable in height. They are manageable and resistant, making them needles recommended by most experts. The hands of this mark are separated into two diameters of needles. These are the "regular" and "fine".
The numbers do not indicate the size of the wool. These numbers are 8, 9, 10, 13 and 14. They indicate the length of the needle and therefore the height of the loops you will get, because remember, you have to push the needle up to the handle in the canvas. The bigger the number, the shorter the needle. 14 is the shortest needle.
On our site we currently sell the most used of all and the most advisable to start the punch needle with wool: The regular Oxford 10. We also have a regular 8 and a fine 14.
The wool size recommended for the oxford regular punch needle is wool that knits with knitting needles size 8 to 10. For fine, use wool for needles 4 to 6.
The height of the loops according to the number of the Oxford hands:
8: 12.7 mm
9: 9.5 mm
10: 6.3 mm
13: 4.8 mm
14: 3.2 mm
The canvas size recommended with the regular is canvas for punch needle 2.4 pts / cm or burlap .
For the fine, from 4 pts / cm to 5 pts / cm. Be careful, do not take the Penelope DMC canvas at 4 pts / cm because it is much too rigid!
The Needle Punch DMC 10 Regular (TECH-240) and the Creative Seed Punch Needle (TECH-270):

Similar to the Oxford 10 regular too. A needle can put the thread in the punch, suddenly the big wool will have a little trouble passing. Non-adjustable size.
The Neele Adjustable Punch No. 10 (OTL-659):
Similar to the regular Oxford Needle Punch in length adjustable loops. It is compatible with the same wools and the same canvases. Its height adjustment system can blow the needle if it is incorrectly installed.
The Name Needle Punch Needle (TECH-082) and Rico's Needle Made by Me Needle (TECH-386):

These are the same punch needles. One is white and the other black. They have an adjustable height and a diameter similar to the Oxford regular. They are made of plastic therefore less comfortable over time than the ergonomic wooden handle of the Oxford.
Small precision, it is indicated on the packaging of the punch needle mesh name is that it is compatible with the wool 8 to 10 mm, it is not about the diameter of the wool, it is in fact the wool for needles 8 to 10 mm. This corresponds to wools of about 4 to 6 mm in diameter. The optimal size being 5 mm.
There are 4 height positions on these hands. A, B, C and D. A being the longest. D at almost the same height to a few millimeters as the size 14 Oxford, C is a near size 10 and B is a little larger than size 8.
The magic needle clover:

It is a small punch needle rather used for embroidery. The needles are interchangeable. It is sold with a needle 3 strands which corresponds to 3 strands of son of a skein of embroidery DMC classic. The other needles correspond to 1 single strand, 6 strands or fine wool for the largest. For example wool for needle No. 3 as Ricorumi wool for Amigurumi.
The ideal canvas starts from 4pts / cm for the biggest one to canvas for punch needle 6.4pts / cm for the finest.
The Needle Punch with 3 Interchangeable Needle Sizes (OTL-614):

This Needle Punch is between magic needles for big wool and magical needles for embroidery thread. This larger needle is 3 mm, it is compatible with wool for knitting needles 4 to 6 mm. The average is 2.5 mm, use it with wool for knitting needle n ° 3 to 4 mm. The very small is 2 mm. Use it with embroidery skeins.
Take 4pts / cm canvas up to 6.4pts / cm.
Tighten the knob that holds the needle with pliers.
The Creative Seed Punch Needle 2.2 mm (TECH-271):

Not adjustable. Its height is between 8 and 10 oxford. Use wool for knitting needles No. 3 maximum with 6.4 pts / cm canvas.
The Needle Punch Adjustable for Embroidery with 4 Needle Sizes (TECH-029):

The needles are 3 mm, 2.2 mm, 1.6 mm and 1.26 mm. The compatible wools are the same as the one above for the 3 mm needle and for the 2.2 mm take wool for knitting needles no. 3 maximum. The 1.6 mm and 1.26 mm needles are used with embroidery skeins. Use a few less strands of wire for the smaller one.
Take 4pts / cm canvas for the biggest and go down to the fabric for the finest. Attention, in the case of the use of the fabric, the punch risks to perforate it so you will not be able to erase the holes.
This punch needle has a reel holder to pre-wrap with the wool or thread of his choice to avoid having to keep the ball or skein in the hand or on the table.
The Needle Punch Adjustable for Embroidery with 3 Needle Sizes Rico Design (TECH-387):

This one has the smallest needles. They are 2.2 mm, 1.6 mm and 1.3 mm. See above for wool and fabric compatibility.
