How to put iron-on rhinestones?

Crystal Fabric and Crystal Rock PureCrystal are millions of tiny, rough-cut PureCrystal crystals fixed in a silicone backing to be heat-bonded to a textile base. It can take the form of a strip of rhinestones to be cut and glued on, a circle, a drop, a heart, an animal, an emoticon...
To apply Crystal Fabric and Crystal Rock rhinestones to fabric, use the same method as for PureCrystal hotfix rhinestones: the adhesive is activated by the heat of the iron to adhere to the substrate. It takes just a few minutes for the iron-on rhinestones to attach to the fabric backing.
These crystal rhinestones are perfect for customizing clothing, fabric bags, shoes or decorative objects. Jewelry can also be created on a textile base such as suede.
However, there are a few precautions to be taken before getting started.

Textiles unsuitable for adhesive crystal rhinestones

Certain textiles and special finishes are not suitable for Hotfix crystal rhinestones, due to their low absorption capacity. Here's a list of unsuitable textiles and finishes:

- Very thickly woven textiles

- Very fine textiles, such as tulle

- Smooth leather and imitation leather

- Water-repellent or waterproofing treatments (silicone, synthetic resin used as a waterproofing agent)

- Teflon® coatings

- Stain-resistant treatments

- Easy-care treatments

- Fluorocarbon finishes

- Softening agents

- Certain dyes (dyes containing metallic pigments)

- Enzymatic treatments.

Please note: it may sometimes be useful to wash the textile substrate before application to remove any unwanted finishes (especially softening agents) and thus improve absorption capacity.

And that's all there is to it! You've learned all you need to know about Crystal Fabric and Crystal Rock adhesive rhinestones. Now it's up to you! Get started and personalize your garments and accessories by following the step-by-step instructions below.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

PREPARE THE FABRIC

Before starting to apply yourcrystal rhinestones, you must check that the textile used can withstand pressure and a maximum temperature of 120°C. At the same time, you must test the absorbency of the textile support by performing the water drop test.
To check this, throw a few drops of water on it. If your fabric absorbs the drops quickly, it is compatible with iron-on. If not, you need to change the fabric.

CHOOSING THE DESIGN

Start by cutting thecrystal rhinestone design as close to the edges as possible to avoid any marks that the clear foil applicator may leave on the fabric as a result of the heat application. Then place the design on the fabric where you want to stick therhinestones.

Step 3

APPLICATION WITH AN IRON

Make sure you use an iron with a smooth soleplate without any areas for steam. This is to ensure that the heat is evenly distributed and that the pressure is evenly distributed over the entire surface of the soleplate.

Step 4

Then select the temperature of the iron according to the type of base fabric: "cotton" position or temperature 150° or the symbol **.
Then place a cardboard sheet on the back of the base fabric to avoid any traces of heat or overflow of adhesive on the back of the fabric or on the other side of the garment.
Protect therhinestones to be glued with a Teflon sheet or a sheet of baking paper.

Step 5

Apply the iron directly to the top of the design, without movement and with uniform and constant pressure for a period of time varying between :

  • 50 seconds at 120° for a Strass Hotfix design on a cotton fabric,
  • 50 seconds at 140° for a Crystal Fabric design fused to a cotton base,
  • 80 seconds at 140° for an iron-on Crystal Rocks pattern on a cotton base,
  • 70 seconds at 140° for a pattern in Crystal Fine Rocks or Crystal UltraFine Rocks fused on a cotton base.

In general, it is best to wait 24 hours after applying an iron-on element to use the custom item and/or wash it to see if yourcrystal rhinestones do not come off.
