How to make earrings?

Follow our tutorial to create these original earrings in the geometric trend with polymer clay.
Learn how to use Mica powders on polymer clay to give beautiful iridescent effects to your DIY creations. What is mica powder? Mica powder is a polymer clay powder for iridescent or metallic effects, applied with a brush or your fingers to the clay before firing. The powder can also be mixed directly into the paste for a satin effect, or fixed with a varnish after baking.

If you're looking for other patterns, have fun with the different texture plates available on our site. You can add relief to your home-made jewelry with an abstract, floral, ethnic or other motif. The choice is yours!

Tutorial steps

Step 1
Mica powder effect polymer geometric earrings : Step 1

Take some black dough, run it through the dough machine to obtain a not too thin plate, notch number 2 on the Atlas machine. Cut your plate into 2 parts.
Place a little talcum powder on your texture plate, blowing to remove the excess. Place it in turn on your pasta plates, pressing firmly as you roll over the entire surface.

Step 2

Use a 4 cm round cookie cutter to cut out half a circle from the 2 textured plates. Count the rows of the scale pattern to have the same height in your half-rounds. Place the 2 cm cutter in the middle of the piece at the top to cut another half-round. Brush on the mica powder to color the top and bottom of your arcs.

Step 3

Using an 11 mm cookie cutter, cut 2 small circles from the textured dough. Color them with the blue powder.

Step 4
Mica powder effect polymer geometric earrings : Step 4

As in step 1, texture a black plate, but this time with the crocodile motif.
Using a 2.5 cm-long diamond-shaped cookie cutter, cut out 2 pieces. Color them with golden Mica powder on all sides.

Step 5
Mica powder effect polymer geometric earrings : Step 5

Gently rub the top of all your pieces with a damp cloth or wipe to remove the powder from the reliefs, leaving it only in the hollows. Bake your pieces for 30 minutes at 120 degrees.

Step 6
Mica powder effect polymer geometric earrings : Step 6

Leave your pieces to cool for a few minutes after removing from the oven. Spread a generous layer of liquid Sculpey paste over each piece, spreading it to the edges with a needle or toothpick. Turn up the oven temperature to 150 degrees, and wait 5 minutes before placing your creations in the oven. Cooking at this temperature should be closely monitored and should not exceed 10 minutes.
Look at your pieces in the oven and stop baking as soon as the opacity of the liquid polymer disappears and becomes completely translucent. We recommend you use a thermometer for this purpose.

Step 7
Mica powder effect polymer geometric earrings : Step 7

Use a hand tool or a Dremel drill to drill your parts. 3 holes on each diamond, then 2 per arc. A hole too close to the edge can weaken your creation, so be careful not to drill too close. Don't drill your small circles.

Step 8
Mica powder effect polymer geometric earrings : Step 8

Varnish all your shapes with a finishing coat of lacquer. Be careful not to block any holes.

Step 9

Before starting to assemble your earrings, glue the small circles onto the disc ear studs. Be careful not to obstruct the ring.
For each earring, take 2 rings of 9 mm and one of 7 mm for the hole at the top of the diamond.
