How to create an eye necklace with Miyuki beads?

Thanks to Charlotte, you'll discover how to make a brick stitch weave on a mounting ring. Step by step, you'll be able to weave Miyuki Delicas beads into an eye, a trendy pattern in fashion and accessories this season.

To make this long necklace, you'll need a gold-plated chain, a clasp, an extension chain, gold-plated open rings, cream feathers, Miyuki Delicas beads, an eye-shaped spacer and 1 spool of copper wire.

Step 1: weaving

To weave, you'll use the "Brick Stitch" method.

However, the first line is different, as you need to hook the weave to the spacer. Pass the thread around the spacer in such a way as to create a knot below each bead (see diagram above) and then continue weaving using the brick stitch method. Do the same on both sides of the spacer.

Designer's tip:

Use a beading needle that opens at the center, as this is more practical for weaving, the needle is more malleable and the thread will be much easier to thread.

How do I make a Brick Stitch?

To begin, thread the first two beads, then pass the thread through the first bead to create a loop, thread the third bead and pass the thread through the previous bead.

Continue this action for each bead in the first line. The first line is now complete.

How to make an invisible reduction?

Thread two beads, then pass your needle under the thread connecting the 2nd and 3rd beads in the row below. Then pass your thread back through the two beads in the opposite direction.

Your thread is now in the first bead, so pass your needle through the second bead from bottom to top.

For the third bead, pass your needle under the thread connecting the 3rd and 4th beads, then pass it back through the bead in the opposite direction. Repeat until the end of the line.

How to make a simple increase?

Thread two beads, then pass your needle under the thread connecting the 1st and 2nd beads of the line below. Then pass your thread back through the last bead from bottom to top.

For the third bead, pass your needle under the thread connecting the 2nd and 3rd beads, then pass it back through the bead in the opposite direction. Repeat until the end of the line.

To finish the weave, iron the thread inside the beads to create a knot, then cut flush with the weave.

Tip: To make your work easier and your weaving more solid, tighten the thread after each action!

Step 2: dressing

Now cut 2 cream feathers 2.5 cm high. Then cut the bottom of the feather perpendicularly, and remove the excess feathers/thread by hand. Glue them together so that the feathers cross (see diagram).

Designer's tip: Glue the entire back of the weave to solidify it.

To add a touch of color and originality to your long necklace, hang a copper wire filled with beads between the chain and the weave. To do this, cut a 2cm piece of copper wire.

On one end, make a loop with the round-tipped pliers, then wrap the excess around the wire itself (see diagram above).

Thread the beads (1 gold, 1 hot pink, 2 light pink, 1 hot pink and 2 turquoise). Make a loop at the other end to secure the beads.

You'll need open rings at each end to attach to the chain and weave later.

Step 3: assembly

Cut the warp into two 30cm-long chains, slide them into the same ring (the one attached to the copper wire) and close it.

At the other end of each chain, slide a ring to accommodate a clasp on one side and the extension chain on the other. Close the rings.

Designer's tip: be careful where you put the clasp, depending on whether you're left- or right-handed.

Your necklace is now complete.
