Mother of pearl earrings and chain

How to make mother-of-pearl jewelry?

It is not new, fashion is an eternal restart! That's why the mother-of-pearl necklaces of our grandmothers are again in fashion and the guests of the fashion shows. No matter what, we decided to show you in our collection "Rendezvous pearl" how to make mother of pearl the number one element of your DIY jewelry. There are a variety of shapes, sizes, or even colors of mother of pearl beads to create fine mother of pearl jewelry .

In this tutorial, I show you how to make mother of pearl jewelry very easily. You can start without ever having made jewelry before. These are two beginner's tutorials in jewelry making that will allow you to grasp the basics: making knots with wire, opening a ring, gluing elements, cutting chain... and other simple gestures that will introduce you to the technical terms and gestures of jewelry making.

First, make an easy pair of creoles by simply stringing the beads of your choice onto a wire and knotting it into a beaded circle to slip into a creole. You can have fun creating an infinite number of variations, for example: accumulation of several circles on the creole, mix of colors and sizes of beads on a circle, adding charms or sequins between the beads ... It's up to you to let your imagination run wild.

The other tutorial consists in the creation of an original ear jewel linking a classic ear stud to a rhinestone sleeper used as a piercing. The two attachments are connected with a wire of mini irregular freshwater pearls and a very thin chain. There too, the possibilities of personalization are numerous: addition of charms on the chain or the pearls, charms on the ring of the sleeper.... it's up to you.

You can make these two pairs of mother-of-pearl earrings, jewelry to be worn daily to accompany an outfit or choose to reserve these jewelry for weddingIt's up to you to show us the creations made from these inspirations! Share them with us by mentioning us on social networks.

Tutorial steps

Step 1
Mother of pearl earrings and chain : Step 1

Cut a piece of nylon thread about 15 cm long (just to be comfortable when creating the knot). Thread 7 round pearly beads on the nylon thread (or more or less depending on the diameter of the desired bead ring).

Tip: prefer an odd number of beads to obtain a well rounded ring

Step 2
Mother of pearl earrings and chain : Step 2

Make a simple knot with both ends of the wire to form a ring of beads. Make a second knot on top to ensure the knot is solid. And you can even add a dot of glue on the double knot. Cut the ends of the nylon thread and let it dry for a few hours. Now all you have to do is thread the beaded ring into your sleeper.

Variations: You can also mix bead colors, add metal elements, vary the size of the beads, create multiple bead rings...

Step 3

Double earrings

Glue your mother-of-pearl hearts on a 6mm disc ear stud with classic jewelry glue like Hasulith. Let dry.

Step 4
Mother of pearl earrings and chain : Step 4

Cut a piece of chain to the length of your choice (here about 6.5cm) with a wire cutter. The length should be consistent with the spacing between the hole in your earlobe and the hole in your piercing. The length can be slightly longer for a loose effect but not shorter.

Connect the chain to the ear stud and rhinestone sleeper with small open rings. To do this, use your jewelry pliers and see our data sheet: how to open rings.

Step 5
Mother of pearl earrings and chain : Step 5

Take a length of nylon thread (about 20 cm to be comfortable). Thread your irregular freshwater pearls onto the wire. Adjust the length to your liking by creating a link at least as long as your spacing between the two earholes or slightly longer depending on the desired effect (here 5cm).

Step 6
Mother of pearl earrings and chain : Step 6

Thread one end of the nylon thread through the link at the end of the chain and tie it around with a double knot. Do the same with the other end. Your two links (freshwater pearls + chain) now connect the two fasteners. Your earrings are ready! If you wish, you can make a second loop with the rest of the material.
