These square silver earrings were made with leftover beads from a previous tutorial: Silver Earrings with Heishis and Onyx Beads. By buying both tutorials, you can make two different pairs of earrings for less money and you will have less leftover beads.
The beads used in this tutorial are black Onyx and small silver brass beads. These sleepers also come in a gold version. You can find the gold products to make these DIY earrings at the bottom of the page in the variation section.
It is also possible to make the same kind of earrings with other pearls or gemstones, such asAmazonite or Rose Quartz. Always check that the diameter of the studs can pass through the hole of the chosen beads. All this information is indicated on the product page for each reference.
Making your own jewelry is not complicated. In addition, this creative activity also teaches you how to repair your other jewelry. In any case, it is always useful to have a set of jewelry pliers at home: a pair of cutting pliers, a pair of round pliers and a pair of flat pliers. However, for this tutorial, one pair of cutting pliers and one pair of round pliers will suffice.
Thread a shield bead, an Onyx puck bead and a silver bead. Bend the nail at 90° at the base of the hole of the last bead with the round pliers. Grasp the nail with the end of the pliers.
Cut the nail 8 mm from the fold.
Grab the end of the stud with the round pliers and begin to form a loop by turning the round pliers in the opposite direction of the fold. Before closing the loop completely, slide it through the ring in the center of the earring and finish closing the loop.
Repeat steps 1 through 3, but this time thread a silver bead, an abacus bead and a final silver bead onto two more nails.
