Make original and trendy earrings with this step by step photo tutorial. This tutorial can be redone with almost any beads from 2 to 4 mm in diameter. Here we used Miyuki delicas 11/0, faceted glass beads and brass beads. The studs are made with Rivoli PureCrystal cabochons which come in many colors.
The earrings are also made of mother-of-pearl pucks on which we have glued a half-sun shape in gold filled and a 4 mm cabochon in Amazonite.
These brightly colored earrings will perfectly match a cobalt blue blouse or a simple white shirt. Otherwise, you can customize them with your favorite clothing colors.
The technique is simple, but requires a little skill. The beads around the mother of pearl puck are attached with a wire that surrounds the round head nail that goes through the puck. The half-sun charm and the Amazonite cabochon are glued with strong bi-component glue. The hasulith glue also holds, but it is a little less strong.
The mother of pearl pucks are handmade and are all a little different. Choose in the batch of 5 pucks, 2 the most similar and regular in the thickness of the edges. It may not be perfect. Keep the other 3 for other projects like these earrings for example:
Pass a round head nail through a 4 mm faceted bead and then the mother of pearl puck. Bend the nail at 90° to 3 mm from the top of the hole in the puck. Cut the wire 8 mm from the fold. Form a loop with the round pliers by turning the wire in the opposite direction of the fold. Go here to see how to make a loop with a nail in video.
Glue the cabochon into the ear stud and let the glue dry. Then put the ring of the ear stud in the loop of the stud and close it. Cut 15 cm of 0.40 mm diameter wire. Wrap one end of the wire twice around the stud under the loop.
String the following beads 4 times: 2 delicas, 1 metal bead, 2 delicas, 1 round faceted bead 3 mm. Finish with 2 delicas. Place the wire with the beads around the puck. Wrap the wire once around the nail, between the 4 mm bead and the puck.
Thread the beads on the other side and then wrap the thread twice around the ring, under the loop. Cut off the excess thread.
Prepare your glue and apply it to the back of the sun with a toothpick. Place the half sun on top in the center of the puck. Then glue the cabochon by putting glue in the hole of the sun. Remove excess glue with a clean toothpick immediately. It will be harder to remove once the glue dries.
