The 90's and 2000's are all the rage. You may remember those plastic bead kits that sometimes kept the kids busy on Wednesday afternoons, between two slices of jam and an orange juice? Well, they're making a comeback - and not just for the little ones, but for the grown-ups too! Here's a parent/child or grandparent/grandchild activity that's sure to delight. Of course, it's also a relaxing activity to do on your own!
The tutorial presented here is made up of two pieces of jewelry: a necklace and a bracelet. Both have the advantage of a Lobster Clasp that can be interchanged in less than 5 seconds. These XXL pastel clasps are very trendy and can be used as the centerpiece of your creation. They come in a range of colors, which you can find at the bottom of this page, along with a list of materials. Fancy a gold clasp? Then perhaps you'd prefer the buoy clasps.
The chain used in both projects is made of aluminum. This makes it very light and comfortable to wear. You can embellish it with pastel or bright polymer clay beads and colored resin beads. A few bicones in colored crystal enhance the look.
For the bracelet, open a link to detach 14 cm of chain. Prepare the charms. Thread a spinning top and a pastel heart bead onto a flat head nail. Bend it at 90 degrees at the base of the bead and then form a loop with a round pliers in the other direction.
Spread the charms out on the table in front of the chain to see how you will arrange them. Then attach them to the chain. To add the clasp, simply unscrew the clasp and slide the two chain ends onto it.
For the necklace, prepare a spacer with a round head nail. Thread 1 spinner, 1 resin bead and 1 spinner onto it and then form a loop on the other side. Separate the chain to obtain a 10 cm piece and add the spacer to the end of it. Add the large chain to the other side of the spacer.
On the other side, put a new spacer 10 cm from the end with pastel heishi rings. Add 2 more beaded spacers on each side. They are all separated by a link of the chain. Adjust the length of the chain to your liking and add the lobster clasp.
