Customization of wooden placemats with pompoms

Is summer here? It's time for family meals and aperitif dinners with friends! Tired of always using the same placemats? No need to go out and buy new ones. You can choose to customize them. In this DIY decorating tip, we give you an easy way to spice up your wooden or bamboo placemats. This miracle solution is called pompons! You can either buy them ready-made, thanks to our sliding-scale prices - the more pompons you buy, the cheaper they'll be - or make them yourself with this DIY long pompon maker.

Customize your placemats with colorful pompons to make them more festive and summery, or with pastel or light-colored pompons for a bohemian style. The material list at the bottom of the page is for 2 placemats: 1 raspberry and orange and 1 blue and turquoise green. We've got a whole range of pompoms for customization. Cotton tassels, imitation silk tassels or gold or silver tassels, you'll be spoilt for choice.

Step 1: Cut 12 cm of yarn from the skeins that most closely match the pom-pom colors. You can also reverse the colors. Thread the yarn through a large eye needle, then use the needle to thread the yarn through the center of the pom-pom.

Step 2: Remove the needle and tie a "full fist" knot by knotting the two strands together and tightening the knot at the base of the pom-pom.

Step 3: Make a double knot on the back of the placemat to tie the pom-pom to the set. Trim off any excess thread. Leave about 5 mm of thread on each side of the double knot. Space the pom-poms evenly and alternate colors.
