How to make dangling earrings?

We love XXL earrings. Use this tutorial to create original oversized earrings using linen thread. In keeping with the trend for natural jewelry, these dangling ear rings are sure to make an impact!

The technique is quite simple: simply wind the flax thread around itself to form a disc, and hold it in place with sewing thread as you go. In this way, you control the volume you wish to give your jewel by winding the thread more or less. So get your needles!
All that's left is to add long tassels (they're ready-made) using open rings. If you'd like to make colorful fancy earrings, you can choose other colors of pom-poms like Neon yellow, navy blue, green or fuchsia.

Don't be put off by their size: these XXL earrings are lightweight. So you can wear them all day long, whatever the occasion. And if you don't want an overloaded look, pair them with a simple outfit.

You can use these threads as a customization accessory, wrapping them around various objects such as tabletop bottles. You can also use it to make macramé for hanging plants.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Take about 1m of sewing thread, thread it through the eye of a needle, cut off the end and tie a double knot.
Take the linen thread, start winding it around itself, hold it between your forefinger and thumb, then stitch through in several places to secure it.

Step 2

Continue wrapping the linen thread around itself, stitching as you go along with your needle, crossing the last 2 rows each time - the thread should not be visible. Simply stitch along the outer or inner edge.

Step 3

You'll need to change threads several times, so stop when the needle comes out, and cut the threads, keeping enough to make 3 double knots. Cut the remaining thread.

Step 4

Stop sewing when you get a disc about 4 cm long. Make a second one, taking care when sewing to wrap the end of the linen thread so that it doesn't unravel over time.

Step 5

Take 6 black pom-poms, and use a large needle to enlarge their holes so you can thread a ring through each one. Attach 3 pom-poms per earring by passing the rings through the linen thread.

Step 6

Attach the earstuds to your linen discs with a ring on the top of the earrings at the final seam.
