How to weave double brick stitch?

How to make a mandala circle pendant with Miyuki Delicas beads?

Who doesn't have green in their wardrobe? This tutorial is for you! The green trend is still in vogue, and we suggest you make a magnificent mandala circle pendant in double brick stitch weaving with Miyuki Delicas 11/0 beads.

Estelle, aka Petit bout de chou, was inspired by her favorite mandalas to create this piece of jewelry woven from glass beads. Here, she uses the double brick stitch technique as a starting point, although weaving is simpler than it looks.

If you're a beginner, don't panic! You'll find our technical sheets on learning to weave beads in the toolbox section of our site.

Thanks to Estelle for sharing her tutorial.

We love to see your creations, so don't hesitate to send us photos of your creation on our Facebook page or tag us on Instagram with #Perlesandco!

Tutorial steps

Step 1
Pendant mandala circle weaving brick stitch beads Miyuki by Petit bout de chou : Step 1

First row
This weave starts with the outer row, using the double brick stitch technique and green emerald beads.

Start by tying a double knot, leaving about 15 cm of thread free on the metal hoop.

To start the row, we'll use the same technique as the one used at the beginning of the brick stitch row, stringing two beads instead of one.

Make a loop around the circle with the needle (1).
Pass through the last two beads from bottom to top (2).
Pass from top to bottom through the first two beads (3).
Pass again from bottom to top through the last two beads (4).

Step 2

You have now obtained two columns of two beads (5).
*String two new beads and loop them around the ring with your needle (6).
Pass the beads from bottom to top (7).*
You have now obtained 3 columns of 2 beads.

You have now obtained 3 columns of 2 beads.

You have now obtained 3 columns of 2 beads.

*Retrieve the instructions between* to obtain a total of 54 columns.

Step 3

You will need to complete 54 points for this first row.

Finish the first row by going back through the first point to the outside and then back through the last point to the inside.

Step 4

Second strand

For this new row, you'll need to thread 7 beads: 3 emerald green, 1 transparent green, 3 emerald green.

Count 4 stitches from the first row and prick the needle outwards.

Repeat until you've gone all the way around the ring (9 times in total).

Step 5
Pendant mandala circle weaving brick stitch beads Miyuki by Petit bout de chou : Step 5

As before, work your way inwards through the first stitch of the first row, then through the 3 emerald beads and the transparent green bead.

You're now ready to start the 3rd row.

Step 3: Third row

For this row, *thread 2 transparent green beads, 1 chartreuse bead, 2 transparent green beads. Thread through the next transparent bead in the second row *.

Repeat between * until you've gone all the way around the ring (9 times in total).

To complete this row, pass through the 2 transparent green beads and the chartreuse bead. You're ready to start the 4th row.

Step 6

Fourth row
For this row, thread 2 chartreuse beads, 1 merald bead, 2 chartreuse beads through the next chartreuse bead in the third row.

Pass through the next chartreuse bead of the third row.*

Run the operation between* until you go around the ring (9 times in total).

To complete this row, pass à through the 2 chartreuse beads and the émeraude bead. You'll be ready for the 5th row.

Step 7

Cinquième rang

For this row, *thread 1 merald bead, 1 transparent green bead, 1 merald bead.Pass through the next chartreuse bead of the fourth row.*

Pass through the next chartreuse bead of the fourth row.*

Repair the operation between* until you go around the ring (9 times in total).

To complete this row, pass à through the émeraude pearl and the transparent green pearl. You'll be ready for the 6th row.

Step 8
Pendant mandala circle weaving brick stitch beads Miyuki by Petit bout de chou : Step 8

Sixième rang

For this row, *1 transparent green pearl. Pass à through the next transparent pearl of the fifth rank.*

Repair the operation between * until you go around the ring (9 times in total).

To tighten the weave, iron a second time through all the beads of the sixth row.

To complete this row, pass à through the next transparent green bead. You are now ready to start the 7th row.

Step 9
Pendant mandala circle weaving brick stitch beads Miyuki by Petit bout de chou : Step 9

Seventh row

This is not really a row, but rather the attachment of the bicone. Thread a chartreuse bead, the spinning top and another chartreuse bead. Insert the needle into the bead of row 6, diametrically opposite the starting bead. Pass through this bead, then back through the chartreuse bead, the bicone and the other chartreuse bead. Pass back through the starting transparent green bead (from row 5).

All that's left is to tuck the threads into the weave to hide them and secure them in the work. Trim off any excess with your small, fine-tipped scissors. You're done!

All that's left is to add a small ring to suspend the pendant from a chain and make a beautiful long necklace.
