The Cellini flat weave is a variation of the Peyote Pair weave. The only difference is that it is made with seed beads of different sizes. The same size beads are woven in a diagonal pattern, which creates, after a few rows, a very interesting 3D weaving effect. This technique is also used in tubular weaving. This creates a tube of beads with a spiral effect. The Cellini spiral was developed by Virginia Blakelock and Carol Perenoud. They named it after Benvenuto Cellini, a 16th century Italian sculptor known for his rococo architectural columns.
A tubular Cellini necklace tutorial is available on our site, feel free to take a look: DIY Miyuki beaded necklace midnight blue and gold spiral beads Cellini technique by Karole Larcanché.
For this beaded bracelet tuto, we used different sizes of Miyuki beads but it can also be made with Toho seed beads or another brand of beads. You can also mix brands, take bohemian facets or use other types of beads. There are many possibilities. However, going from a small size of beads to a very large size of beads is not always the most aesthetic choice. Don't hesitate to do some tests to find the right combination of beads for you.
Be careful, Miyuki delica beads are not suitable for this kind of weaving. You need beads that the other beads can lean on. The cylindrical shape of delica beads will not be suitable.
In conclusion, Cellini flat weave is very versatile and can be used to create a variety of jewelry, such as bracelets, necklaces, earrings or rings. Artisans can also use it to make ornaments, fashion accessories or decorative items.
