What to do with Howlite beads?

Gemstone jewelry is the must-have jewelry trend of 2022. Forget about monochromatic and single stone jewelry, though. In 2022, we combine the natural colors of stones. We create gradations by going from Aquamarine to Apatite, we mix bright colors in a pretty mishmash thanks to tinted Jades and Garnets, or we combine two stones with very different colors.

Add to these stones flower rings, metal heishis, some charms and an original clasp and you will get a jewel that will be a hit this year and next year, we are convinced. All these beads are quite heavy, though. So take a very strong wire. Forget about sewing thread or classic fishing line. We recommend using jewelry wire of the maximum diameter that will allow you to pass twice through the beads near the clasp. Also, the more strands you have, the stronger the wire.

In this tutorial, we made the compromise of using 0.46 mm wire in 19 strands because the 49 strands in 0.46 mm has a consequent price, especially since the one we have for sale is gold plated (at the time this tutorial is written). If you are interested in this thread because you want to use the best possible product for a gift for example, we have added it in the variation part at the bottom of the material list. On the other hand, you will find in this variation part products in gold brass to replace the gold filled if you want to lower the costs of the tutorial.

Before starting, please note that the material list is for a necklace of 45 cm. Depending on your neck size and preferences, you may need to add 1 or 2 bags of 4mm Howlite. 1 bag will make the necklace 20x0,4=8 cm longer. This design also uses 18 of the 20 malachite beads in the bag in the material list. Remember to make your calculations and double check your cart before validating it.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Cut 65 cm of wire. Thread 1 crush bead, 1 wire guard, 1 closed ring and iron in the crush bead. Leave a piece of wire of about 10 cm. Crush the bead with a special crush bead pliers and fold it in half. Place a crush bead cover on top.

String 10 Howlite beads (more if you want to make a larger necklace and you bought an extra bag of beads). Then string 1 gold flower roundel, 1 Malachite bead 4 mm, 1 flower roundel, 5 Howlite, 1 flower roundel, 1 Malachite bead 4 mm, 1 flower roundel.

Step 2

Continue stringing the beads. 5 Howlite, 1 flower puck, 1 Malachite bead 4 mm, 1 flower puck, 3 Howlite, 1 gold puck single, 1 flower puck, 1 puck single, 3 Malachite beads 4 mm, 1 gold puck single, 1 flower puck, 1 puck single, 3 Howlite, 1 gold pucke simple, 1 rondelle flower, 1 rondelle simple, 3 pearls Malachite 4 mm, 1 rondelle gold simple, 1 rondelle flower, 1 rondelle simple, 3 Howlite, 10 rondelles simple, 1 pearl flattened gold, The pendant on which you will have previously added a ring and redo the same threading on the other side of the necklace.

Step 3

Once all the beads are strung, do the same finish as in step 1 with the bead to be crushed, the wire guard, the closed ring and the bead cover. Before crushing the bead, pass the wire through the beads of the necklace as shown in the photo and tighten, but leave some room for the bead cover to be crushed. Once the bead has been crushed, check that the fastening holds by pulling on the necklace. If not, tighten the bead to be crushed with a pair of pliers or remove it and start again with a new one.

Step 4

Unscrew the clasp. It may be a little too tight to get the rings through. You can try to spread the two ends by hand by rotating them slightly, avoid using pliers that will make marks. Pass the two closed rings through the clasp and then screw it closed.
