What to do with the Miyuki Delicates 11/0 "Terracotta Mix" bead set ?

Virginie, whom you know better as "Pistachio Stars", shares with you in this tutorial her creations from our Miyuki Delicas 11/0 "Terracotta mix" bead assortment. This kit is a big hit with our expert weavers and beginners alike. It offers you in a cardboard box with pretty floral patterns an assortment of 6 references of Miyuki Delicas 11/0 beads itself packaged in round and transparent boxes, but especially reusable to store your references of beads. To launch your first project as soon as you open the kit, Tiffanie has prepared a bracelet diagram. All you need is your wire and a beading needle and you have everything you need to get started.

"Terracotta Mix" as its name suggests, is a set of references in warm shades with, at the rendezvous, a declination of yellows and oranges accompanied by a more intense brown and a bright gold to highlight the whole. This autumnal assortment of colors allows you to bring many realistic patterns to life. Virginie has put her ideas on paper and shares with you 4 cute and true-to-life designs:

  • A moth
  • A leaf
  • A feather
  • A small bouquet of dried flowers (for the weavers who love flowers, we invite you to discover all our other floral weavings)

These weavings are made with the brickstitch technique. For those who are beginners, you can consult all our technical sheets to learn bead weaving. Once your patterns are woven, you can use them in any way you like: pins or brooches, keychains, refrigerator magnets, scrapbooking decorations, etc. All your ideas are welcome.

Tutorial steps

Step 1
DIY bead weaving Miyuki Delicas 11/0 theme : Step 1
  • After choosing your pattern and preparing your material, start weaving at the point indicated by the arrow
  • Weave the first 2 rows (2 row start technique) or weave the 1st row (ladder start technique)

Additional info for the feather: at the end of the 2 rows start, you will need to add a bead at the end of a row. Use the ladder technique to attach this last bead.

  • At the end of your starting row(s), continue by weaving the first half of the weave
  • At the end of the first half, pull in and cut your yarn
  • Return to the starting row and weave the other half of the weave
  • At the end of the second half, pull in and cut your yarn

To brooch your weaving: glue a brooch holder (the right size for your weaving) to the back of your weaving.

The leaf and bouquet patterns can also be used as earrings (you will have to weave 2 patterns). In this case, attach a small ring to the weave and attach a BO hook to it.

The leaf and butterfly designs can also be used as necklaces. In this case, attach 2 small rings and attach a chain and a clasp.

Step 2

You can also try the technique of starting a brick stitch weaving on two rows. For this, all the technical information can be found on Virginie's blog in her article:Starting a 2 row brick stitch weaving

Step 3

Attention, additional information for the weaving of the feather: at the end of the 2 rows of starting, you will have to add a bead at the end of a row. Then use the ladder technique to attach this last bead.

Otherwise, for the other diagrams:

- at the end of your starter row(s), continue by weaving the first half of the weave

- at the end of the first half, pull in and cut your yarn

- return to the starting row and weave the other half of the weave

- at the end of the second half, pull in and cut your yarn

NB: "Pulling in the yarn" means to catch the yarn in the beads by zigzagging between them.

Step 4

To assemble your weaving, several solutions are available to you.

1) Brooch : glue a brooch support (19mm for the leaf, the bouquet and the butterfly and 33mm for the feather) on the back of your weaving with jewelry glue. For the feather, I advise you to stiffen one side of the weaving with Decopatch varnish (ref OTL-529) before gluing the brooch support.

2) Earrings: the leaf and bouquet patterns can also be used as earrings (in this case, you will have to weave 2 patterns). In this case, attach a small ring (ref GLD-265) to the weaving and fix a BO hook (ref BO-686)

3) Necklace: the leaf pattern can also be mounted as a necklace. In this case, attach 2 small rings (ref GLD-265) and fix a chain and a clasp (ref PLO-279).
