Herringbone weaving is a bead weaving technique that gives an angle to a weave. We already presented herringbone weaving on earrings in the tuto Miyuki beaded earrings herringbone weaving. Today, we're showing a twisted or spiral version.
The technique is the same as the tubular herringbone, but here we'll create a slight offset at the start of the weave to give the beads a slight inclination and obtain a pretty tube with twisted lines. By changing the bead colors, you can achieve different effects. For example, you could use 2x3 bead colors, or 6 different bead colors, to create a twisting gradient. The possibilities are endless!
In this tutorial, we've woven around a rigid metal bead, but if your wrist is 16 cm or more, we recommend you use the same fastening system as in the tutorial for weaving a tubular herringbone bracelet in Seed beads Miyuki gradient effect. It will then be very supple.
Cut 1.5 m of weaving thread and thread it onto a needle. Then thread 4 seed beads 15/0 cream colour. Iron in the first 2 and tighten. The beads should be 15 cm from the end of the thread.
Go through the last 2 again and tighten the weave.
Thread 2 Muscat pearls and pass through the last 2 cream pearls. Then iron in the Muscat pearls.
Repeat step 3, 3 times, to add 2x2 Pear colour beads and 1x2 Muscat beads.
Connect the first 2 beads and the last 2 beads by surrounding the metal ring. To do this, pass the needle through the first 2 creams, the last 2 Muscat and again through the creams.
Your wire must come out the side of the rush. Thread two cream beads and pass them through the next two.
Go to the second Muscat pearl that follows. Do not go into the 2 Muscat pearls. This is where the twisting of the pearls will begin.
Thread 1 Muscat pearl and 1 Pear pearl and pass through the next 2 Pear pearls. Then pass through the second Pear pearl in the next line.
Thread 1 pearl and 1 Muscat pearl and pass through the next 2 Muscat pearls. Pass through the last 2 Cream pearls to go up and start a new row of pearls.
Thread 2 Cream beads and pass through the next 2 Cream beads. Then pass through the last Muscat pearl. Thread 1 Muscat pearl and 1 Pear pearl and pass through the next 2 Pear pearls. Now pass through the last Pearl pearl in the next column. Thread 1 Pearl and 1 Muscat pearl and go through the last 2 Muscat pearls. Then go through the last 2 Cream Pearls to go up and start a new row of pearls.
Repeat step 10 until you have completely completed the ring, leaving room for 2 rows of beads on each side of the ring. If you need to change the thread because it becomes too short, iron in the beads following the twist. For example, use about ten Cream on the way down, then a little less Muscat on the way up and the same for the Pears on the way down. This will block the thread. Cut it close to the pearls. Take a new thread and slide it through the pearls in the same way to block it. Pull on it to see if it is blocked and then bring the thread back to where you stopped weaving.
Finally add 2 rows of Muscat pearls with the same technique, twisted herringbone on the side where you end and normal herringbone on the side where you start. Connect the last row by connecting the pearls in the columns with a loop, i.e., for example, by going into the next one from underneath, going back into the previous one from above and going back into the next one from underneath and so on until you have gone around the pearls completely. Then wedge the thread in the beads as explained above and cut it. Finally add charms to the rings with open rings.
