Learn how to make costume jewelry with our free DIY tutorials! In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through the steps to make your own costume hoop earrings. These hoop earrings are a little special because they’re actually earstuds with a large hoop attached. That means even less chance of losing your earrings! They’re also available in a silver hoop version.
The only skill you’ll need for this tutorial is knowing how to open and close rings. Beginners often try to open them by pulling the ends of the ring apart. Be careful—that’s a mistake! Doing this warps the ring, causing it to lose its perfect round shape. To open a ring correctly, you need to rotate both ends around the same axis. To do this, use your flat-nose pliers and round-nose pliers, gripping one end of the ring with each pair. Then, to close them, make small back-and-forth movements, bringing the ends closer together until they’re snug against each other.
The lotus charms we use come in about ten different colors as well as a silver finish. The mini pom-poms are also available in many colors. Feel free to check out our selection of colors!
