Cutting metal is one of the basic techniques of jewelry making. But cutting a perfect circle in a sheet of metal can be a tricky business, especially when you don't have the right tools.

That's where a tool called a cutter comes in. This cutting tool comes in handy for cutting circles out of various types of metal plates up to 1mm thick.
It allows you to make clean cuts without using a hacksaw. Cutting metal is quick and easy.

This very practical disc cutter is composed of :

  • A base with hollowed out round shapes and a slot.
  • Several hardened steel cutters of different sizes.

In this video tutorial, Lucie shows you how to use the cutter to cut discs in a metal sheet. Find below the steps explained in step by step to cut easily discs in metal.

Tutorial steps

Step 1

Prepare your cutting tool by removing all the cutters. (0:18)

Step 2

Place your metal plate in the slot in the base provided for this purpose. In order to lose as little material as possible, position your plate on an angle. (0:30)

Step 3

Position the cylinder of your choice with the cutting part facing the right way. (0:38)

Step 4

Tap the cutter several times with a jeweler's hammer (watch your fingers!). To get the cutout out, tap until it goes through to the other side. (0:53).

And that's it! You've got a circle with perfect lines. You can now pierce it and add a ring to make a pretty medal.
All you have to do is punch or engrave it as you wish. To do this, discover all our accessories and tools for engraving and punching.
