With a good pair of jeweler's shearscut small thin strips along the length of the plate. The width of the strip will depend on the size of the solder to be made.
In jewelry, brazing is one of the basic techniques to know. More commonly known as "soldering", brazing allows two pieces of metal to be joined together under heat (using a flashlight) by adding another piece of metal called "brazing". It takes time and practice to master this technique.
What is the difference between welding and brazing?
As a reminder, welding is a technique that allows two parts of the same alloy to be joined together by fusion, whereas brazing requires a contribution to join two parts together.
There are different types of brazing:
The advantage of using brazing filler metals with different melting points is that you can make several brazing joints on the same part. If you have several brazes to make your jewelry, you must start with the strong braze and then finish with the weak.
Which braze should I use? Solder comes in different forms: plate, wire or paste. It's up to you to choose the one you prefer!
In this video, we used plate solder. Depending on the work you are going to do, cut out larger or smaller pieces (also called straw)! Lucie shows you how to cut small solder straws. All you need is a good pair of shears and a little patience!
When your strawberries are ready, you can start soldering!
With a small brush, apply a small amount offlux (borax) to the area where the braze is to be made. This substance allows the braze to flow smoothly while preventing oxidation of the metal. Place your straw mat so that it is in contact with both pieces. Then proceed to the flashlight stage.
Tip: place your straw mat under the ring where you want to solder, when you heat the assembly, you will see the solder rising by capillary action. The solder is attracted by the heat, you can drive it with the flashlight where you want.

Then cut widthwise (the other way around, actually!) to make several 1mm x 1mm (or 1mm x 2mm) strips at once.
Tip: to keep the strawberries from flying all over the place when you cut them, hold the strips with your finger (be careful not to cut yourself!).
