The onyx belongs to the Chalcedony family. Black onyx stone is not originally black. It is treated by being immersed in a solution of black sugar and acid. The soft, porous nature of the stone allows the solution to soak in. After immersion, the stone is then heated. This is a common process that makes the colour deeper and longer lasting.
Beware, each bead is unique and can show imperfection.
