The creole opens on one side to allow you to thread the beads onto its wire. Once you've finished threading the beads, replace the stem in the tube below the clasp to close it.
You can either bend the protruding end slightly with round-nose pliers to prevent your earring from opening, or flatten the tube with flat-nose pliers to trap the stem.
To avoid making marks on the metal, use a small piece of cloth between your pliers and the earring when flattening the tube.
