How to make a Mississippi weave with Miyuki delicas 11/0 beads?

The Mississippi weave is a combination of Herringbone weave for the center of the bracelet and Peyote for the rest. This combination creates an inclined Peyote weave symmetrical to the center of the bracelet. The result is a weave with a more accentuated chevron or arrow effect than with normal Peyote weave. This effect is enhanced by the use of Miyuki delicas size 11/0 glass beads. These small, regular cylindrical beads create a geometric effect that would be impossible to achieve with irregular Seed beads.

This Mississippi weaving video tutorial shows you step-by-step how to weave a Miyuki bangle bracelet using this technique. This tutorial is not recommended for weaving beginners, as it does not present the basics of weaving in detail, e.g. changing thread while weaving, moving around a weave, reading a pattern, etc. If this is your case, we invite you to consult our technical sheets on needle bead weaving.

As Mississippi weaving is a combination of Peyote and Herringbone weaving, we also advise you to master Peyote weaving first, then Odd, for a better understanding of the video tutorial. You can also find out more about the principle of Herringbone weaving by consulting our data sheet and trying out these tutorials:

I've been doing beadwork for years, and this tutorial is, in my opinion, VERY confusing, right from the start. The pencil markings on the graph are very hard to see; it would be much better to use an ink pen that is clearly visible on the darker color areas. A second suggestion would be to use a different color ink pen to mark each row. I even made screen shots so I can make my own markings, but got totally lost on the 3rd row with the turnings. Do you have any written instructions with drawings, please? I'd really love to make this bracelet! Thank you

Enfin, je l’ai resolu. En cas c’est utile pour qu’un(e) autre : Rows 1 and 2 are the initial stringing of beads as shown in the first step. Row 3 (the first row of stitching) is the most confusing because 4 gold beads are added for the central herringbone (not two as one might expect from the graph). Two of these gold beads (1st and 4th) belong to Row 3, which lies UNDER Rows 1 and 2. However, gold beads 2 and 3 are part of the “set up” for continuing the herringbone stitch in Row 4 which lies ON TOP of Rows 1 and 2.

Then Row 4 is stitched on top of Rows 1 and 2, following the graph. After Row 4, one passes the thread through the bottom row (which was Row 3) without adding beads, to stabilize the beading and connect Row 3’s gold beads 1 and 4 to complete the herringbone. At the end, turn and pass the thread up to start Row 5.
