Is it possible to mix beads of different sizes on a loom weave?
Yes, it is possible! Here is a video tutorial that shows you a loom beaded bracelet design that is made of Miyuki delicas and pierced gemstones of different sizes. However, this is not done without thinking about it beforehand, or without testing. Indeed, if you take beads of too different sizes, the thread on the edges will be seen all the more. You must therefore choose your beads carefully. If possible, they should increase in size little by little.
For example here, we took delicas size 11/0, then 10/0 a little bigger, but hardly more. This allows to enlarge the bracelet a bit. Then, the trick is to place the large beads between 4 wires instead of 2. So, to put half as many beads in the width. The bracelet is thus widened, but without it being exaggerated.
Another tip is to take a nice thick wire for the edge of the bracelet. This way, even if it is very visible and doesn't stick close to the beads, it will still be pretty and look more finished than a regular weaving wire. But if you don't mind, you can use the same weaving thread for the whole bracelet.
We have chosen 3 different threads for the following reasons but feel free to use what you are used to for weaving your bracelet:
- Silkworm thread size 16: This is a very pretty metallic thread that will be perfect for the edges of a bracelet. Its use is purely an aesthetic choice.
- C-LON AA wire: A first price weaving wire. It is not very expensive, but frays quickly. It is suitable for a loom thread that is not subjected to much friction or needle passing and helps to reduce my costs when weaving many such bracelets.
- Miyuki weaving yarn: Better quality weaving yarn than C-LON AA. It frays less quickly. Suitable for weft yarn.
