Cut 2 pieces of wire: one 40 cm long and the other 1.2 m long. Place the 40 cm piece on the tray. Tie the 1.2 m piece on the 40 cm piece. You should have 60 cm of thread on both sides of the knot.
Today we invite you to mix three summer trends! Flower bracelets, macramé and letter beads come together to form a retro bracelet inspired by the 2000s. There are just two macramé knots used in this DIY: the macramé overhand knot and the frivolity knot. Find the 11 basic macramé knots in our video datasheet.
First, get a foam macramé tray. The notches on the tray make it very useful and easy to work with.
Secondly, choose your thread and letter beads. You'll need two 3 m pieces of 1 mm braided nylon thread and 7 mm letter beads. These alphabet beads are available in many different colors. The list of materials and some other color variations are shown at the bottom of the page.
Thirdly, measure your wrist circumference. You'll need this to see if your word or message is too short or too long for your wrist. Each flower measures about 1 cm. So if your wrist is 15 cm, you won 't be able to fit more than 15 flowers, as you'll also need to add the sliding knot for the closure. Your word should therefore be a maximum of 15 letters long.
For your bracelet to be pretty, you'll also need to make sure there are only flowers on the front. You can replace 1 to 3 flowers with a macramé flat knot, but it will be prettier with a large number of flowers. Check all this before you start, then find the letters you need in the pack of beads and set them aside.
You've got everything you need? Let's get started!
Cut 2 pieces of wire: one 40 cm long and the other 1.2 m long. Place the 40 cm piece on the tray. Tie the 1.2 m piece on the 40 cm piece. You should have 60 cm of thread on both sides of the knot.
Take the 3 m piece of yarn and tie it on the 40 cm yarn, above the previously tied yarn. You should have 1.5 m on each side of the knot. Tie this long thread on the 60 cm thread following the video. You must first go over the 60 cm thread, then under and through the loop formed. Then you must reverse. Go under the 2 foot wire, over and through the loop. Tighten the wire and repeat these two knots 5 times on each side.
Thread the first letter onto the shorter thread. Cross the two 60 cm threads over the centre thread, one of which must go under the centre thread. Follow the video to make the final knot that will bring the circle together. Tighten and pull the two two foot wires together. Then repeat steps 2 and 3 to secure the Alphabet beads together.
Once you have attached all the letters, fill in the empty space if necessary with a macramé overhand knot on each side of the bracelet. Melt the remaining wires except for the center wire and add a touch of glue. You can also use only glue, but in generous doses and cut the wire only after the glue has dried. Make a macramé slip knot to close the bracelet.
