In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to make a micro-macramé bracelet. It was made using 0.35mm Linhasita cord and stainless steel charms. Micro-macramé has become an essential technique for creating handmade jewelry. Bracelets, necklaces, rings, or anklets: the possibilities are endless, and the results are always elegant. This technique really shines in the summer, with lightweight, colorful, and distinctive designs that pair just as well with a beach outfit as they do with a more dressy look.
Although you only need to know one type of macramé knot to make this bracelet, this tutorial is best suited for those who are already familiar with the basics of macramé. If you’re just starting out but still want to take on a little creative challenge for the summer vacation, the knot you’ll need to master to make this bracelet is the double diagonal half-key knot, both left and right. To make this bracelet, take 8 strands of thread, each 110 cm long. Set aside about 12 cm of thread and secure the 8 strands to your work surface. If you’re using a macramé board, use one of the notches to hold the strands in place.
Adding a clip will help you spread the 8 strands out flat so you can start tying the first knots.
In the instructions that follow, the strands will be labeled Strand 1 through Strand 8, from left to right, at each step.
Separate the 8 strands: 4 on the left and 4 on the right. Strand 5 becomes the carrier strand. Place it diagonally to the left, abovestrands 1 through 4.
We will tie double half-hitch knots with each of the strands 4, 3, 2, and 1, in that order. Make 1knot to the right with Strand 4 over the carrier strand (Strand 5) (over/under knot) .Tighten the knotsecurely .
Make another knot to the right with Thread 4 on the carrier thread (Thread 5) (over-under knot). Tighten the second knot securely close to the first one.
The top thread (Thread 5) is always positioned diagonally to the left, above Threads 3, 2, and 1. Repeat this step with Threads 3, 2, and 1.
Repeat the same process on the other side, making adouble diagonal half-key knot to the left. To do this,place Thread 5 (the carrier thread) diagonally to the right, above Threads 6, 7, and 8. Make 2 knots to the left with Thread 6 over the carrier thread (Thread 5) (over/under knots). Tighten each knot securely.
Now place Strand 5 ( the carrier strand) to the left, overStrands 4, 3, and 2. Strand 1 remains diagonally separate. We will tie double half-hitch knots to the right with Strands 4 and 3, in that order, onto Strand 5 (the carrier strand).
Hold Thread 5 ( the carrier thread) vertically downward. Now place Thread 3underThread 5, to the left.
Make 2 knots to the left with Thread 3 on the main thread (Thread 5) (over-and-under knots). Tighten each knot securely.
Following the numbering of the strands from left to right, the new carrier strand becomes: “ Strand 5 ”
Place Thread 5 (the main thread) overThread 6. Tie 2 knots to the left using Thread 6 over Thread 5 ( over-under knot). Tighten each knot securely.
Hold Thread 5 ( the carrier thread) vertically downward. Now place Thread 6underThread 5, to the right.
Make 2 knots to the right with Thread 6 on the carrier thread (Thread 5) (over-and-under knots). Tighten each knot securely.
Place Thread 5 (the main thread) overThread 4 and tie 2 knots to the right with Thread 4 over Thread 5 ( the main thread). Tighten each knot securely.
Following the numbering of the threads from left to right, the new carrier thread becomes “ Thread 1 ” and the thread used to tie the knots becomes “Thread 2.” Place the carrier thread (Thread 1) overThread 2.
Make 2 knots to the left with Thread 2 over the carrier thread (Thread 1) (over-and-under knots). Tighten each knot securely
Place the carrier thread (Thread 1) overThread 3. Tie 2 knots to the left with Thread 3 over the carrier thread (Thread 1) (over/under knots). Tighten each knot securely so that it lies flush against the knots of the main piece.
Place the carrier thread (Thread 1) overThread 4. Tie 2 knots to the left with Thread 4 over the carrier thread (Thread 1) (knots over/under). Tighten each knot securely.
Following the numbering of the threads from left to right, the new carrier thread becomes “Thread 8 ” and the thread used to tie the knots becomes Thread 7. Place the carrier thread (Thread 8) overThread 7.

Following the numbering of the threads from left to right, the new carrier thread becomes “ Thread 2,” and the thread used to tie the knots becomes “Thread 3.” Place the carrier thread (Thread 2) overThread 3.
Make 2 knots to the left with Thread 3 over the carrier thread (Thread 2) (over-and-under knots). Tighten each knot securely
Hold Thread 2 ( the carrier thread) vertically downward. Now place Thread 4underThread 2, to the left.
Make 2 knots to the left with String 4 over the carrier string (String 2) (over/under knots). Tighten each knot securely
Following the numbering of the threads from left to right, the new carrier thread becomes “Thread 5,” and the thread used to tie the knots becomes Thread 4. Place the carrier thread (Thread 5) overThread 4.
Make 2 knots to the right using Thread 4 on the carrier thread (Thread 5) (over-and-under knots). Tighten each knot securely.
Now repeat Steps 12 through 18 until you reach the desired length (at least 14 to 15 cm for an adult bracelet).
To finish the bracelet, separate the two strands on the left and right, and take the four strands in the center to braid them to the desired length so that the finished bracelet fits over your wrist.
To make the braid, use 1 strand / 2 strands / 1 strand. Finish with a knot. Then cut the 2 x 2 side strands and singe the ends. You can add a bead after the knot.
RepeatStep 22 exactly the same way on the other side of the bracelet.
Use one of the cut strands to make the slipknot that will finish the bracelet.

You can easily add small charms to personalize this delicate bracelet to your liking. To do this, take a jump ring, open it with flat-nose pliers, and slide the charm inside. Thread the ring with the charm through one of the holes in the bracelet and close the ring.
