Cannetille is a flexible metal tube. It is actually a flexible metal wire that is wound in a tubular fashion, much like a spring. Cannetille can be smooth, curly, and in multiple colors and sizes. To use it in embroidery, it is cut to the desired size and embroidered like a bead. Some canetille can be used to protect wired threads for jewelry and to make joining rings. In this case, a stronger cannetille is used with a thinner and less flexible thread than that used for embroidery.
