How to make resin buttons?

Creating your own resinsewing buttons is child's play these days, thanks to silicone molds. They're very easy to use, and will enable you to make sewing buttons of various sizes, with two or four holes. All you have to do is pour inclusion resin into a mold and add small decorative elements.

You can use this technique with all kinds of elements to create unique DIY creations that will always surprise those around you. For this tutorial, we've chosen to make inclusions with flower petals and green gypsophila. But you can also add resin elements, other kinds of dried flowers, glitter or microbeads. Inclusion resin offers many possibilities!
To personalize these sewing buttons even further, try coloring the resin with acrylic paint or dyes for a unique result.

Once your buttons are ready, all that's left to do is sew them onto a garment or accessory.

How to sew a button

• Choose your thread, generally in the same tones as the garment you want to sew it onto. Don't hesitate to double the thread to make it even stronger.
• Using a needle, thread the thread through the eye, so that it hangs as much on one side as on the other. Tie a knot at the end of the thread.
• Position the sewing button on the fabric, checking that it is aligned with the buttonhole.
• Pass the thread through the fabric from below, through one of the holes in the button and pull the thread through. Then pass the thread through the second hole, this time from above and vice versa.
• Once the button is securely fastened, pass the thread between the button and the fabric and turn several times, then iron through the fabric and tie a knot.
