What to do with Miyuki bugle?

These Miyuki beaded fringe earrings are made using the brick stitch technique around a ring. We are going to use a nice gold stainless steel pendant as a support for our bead weaving. You will first weave Miyuki delica 11/0 beads around this pendant. These beads will then be used to hang your bangs. We are going to make 6 pearl bangs per earring. They are composed of 15/0 seed beads, Miyuki Bugle beads which are tubular beads of 3 mm or 6 mm long and small Amazonite stone charms.

You can also customize both pendants with Amazonite cabochons on the front and back to get identical earrings on both sides. Want a different color? Choose other gemstone charms and natural stone cabochons.

Want to weave pearl earrings without using a pendant as a backing? Check out these other techniques:

Miyuki bugle beads also exist in a finer version. They are called slender bugles. There are also twisted bugles which are grooved and twisted. These ones will make very nice long pearl earrings.

Be careful, the pendant is a bit sharp for the Miyuki wire. Don't pull too hard on the wire.

Tutorial steps

Step 1
Miyuki Delica and Turquoise Bugles Earrings : Step 1

Cut 1 m of weaving yarn and tie it to the pendant near the fastener. Keep 10 cm of the thread end. Thread the longest piece of yarn onto the needle. Thread two turquoise beads and place them against the knot and against the pendant but towards the outside of the pendant. Pass the thread with the needle around the edge of the pendant and back through the second bead, paying attention to the direction. Tighten.

Step 2

Pass through the first bead again and then through the second and tighten. If the thread shows over the beads, you have not gone through the beads in the right direction.

Step 3

Thread a third turquoise bead. Place it against the second one. Pass the thread around the pendant and back into the third bead. Tighten.

Step 4
Miyuki Delica and Turquoise Bugles Earrings : Step 4

Continue to attach all the beads. You need to weave 6 beads before the full part of the pendant, 14 beads at the full part and 6 beads after the full part. On the full part, the first 5 and the last 5 are attached by passing the thread through the petals of the pendant. The 4 in the center are attached by passing the needle through the small triangles. This will help center the beads for the fringe.

Then go back through the woven beads with the needle. Go to the sixteenth bead counting from the beginning of the weaving.

Step 5
Miyuki Delica and Turquoise Bugles Earrings : Step 5

Thread 1 seed bead 15/0, 1 cream bugle, 1 seed bead 15/0, 1 green bugle, 1 seed bead 15/0, 1 cream bugle, 1 seed bead 15/0, 1 cream bugle, 1 seed bead 15/0, 1 Amazonite charm.

Step 6
Miyuki Delica and Turquoise Bugles Earrings : Step 6

Turn in all the beads of the fringe except the charm. Also turn in the sixteenth turquoise bead. Tighten the thread, but leave the fringe loose or it will get all twisted. With each new fringe, pull on the previous one so it doesn't curl up.

Step 7
Miyuki Delica and Turquoise Bugles Earrings : Step 7

Then move on to the fifteenth delica. Repeat step 6. Continue until you have attached all 6 bangs per earring. Then go through the delicas to bring your yarn back to the beginning yarn end. Tie the two pieces of wire together with a double knot and then thread them both through the first bead. Put a dab of glue on the knot with a toothpick and then cut off the excess wire by cutting it as close to the bead as possible.

Step 8
Miyuki Delica and Turquoise Bugles Earrings : Step 8

Remove the open ring from the pendant, you won't need it in this project. Open the open ring of the ear hook and slip the pendant into it and close the ring. You can keep the two open rings of the pendant for other projects.
