How to close a miyuki bracelet without clasp?

Here is a model of Miyuki bracelet that will delight fans of silver. The beads of this bracelet are woven with a loom. This time we used a loom that allows you to put your weaving upright. This is a stable loom and much more comfortable than most looms. It is very important to be comfortable when weaving beads for hours on end. If you don't have a loom or your loom doesn't work for you, we suggest you try this one.

The weaving pattern and the method of closing without a clasp is the same as this tutorial you loved: Miyuki Delicas 10/0 Loom Bracelet. There are still a few small differences with the first pattern:

  • The beads used here are Miyuki delicas size 11/0, while the old model is size 10/0. The 11/0 delicas are the most common size. They are slightly smaller than the 10/0.
  • The loom wires are braided with the edge wires at the end, whereas for the original machete we had tucked all the wires into the weave. As the beads have a smaller hole in this tutorial, this will not be possible. That's why we weave them in. So, choose a weaving wire that goes well with the border wire.
  • We did not include rhinestones in the weave. The silver beads are bright and shiny enough.

For the border of the bracelet, we used silver Linhasita wire. This is a poissé wire designed for micro-macramé. This makes it friction resistant and perfect for making slip knot closures. Moreover, as it is a synthetic thread, it melts when exposed to the flame of a lighter. This means that you don't have to rely on glue alone to solidify the knot. The melted plastic will stick to the knot and seal it.

This bracelet was made to illustrate our article TOP 10 Miyuki colors of summer 2022 which we invite you to read if you are looking for color ideas to use.

This tutorial is not very detailed. It is more for the advanced beaders.

Tutorial steps

Step 1
Tuto Bracelet Miyuki sliding knot loom weaving : Step 1

Install the yarn on the loom. To make sure we have enough length to make the braids at the end, we wrapped the yarn 1 time on the log on each side of the loom, before and after wrapping it around the nail. This way it will be elongated on both sides. At the end, you will unscrew and unscrew the log to remove the threads without cutting them. Then, you will cut them in the center to keep the maximum length.

The two silver border wires are added individually after the rest of the fine wires are attached. There are 10 fine wires and 1 silver border wire on each side.

Step 2

Still to keep as much yarn length as possible on each side of the bracelet, tie, with a double knot, your weaving yarn onto one of the edge wires in the center of the loom. The weaving thread threaded onto the needle should be about 4 sts long to begin with. Keep 2 yards of thread after the knot for later.

Once the thread is attached to the center of the loom, start weaving upwards and following the pattern. Measure the weave as you go. You should make the total weave the size of your wrist -1 cm. Multiply the length of your first part of the weave by two as you will need to weave the other side afterwards.

When you get close to the desired half-length, decrease until you end up with a single bead for the tip of the bracelet. You can see the step by step technique on the tutorial for the first version of this bracelet linked in the introduction.

Once that's done, wedge your wire into the weave and cut it off.

Step 3

Place the needle on the remaining 2 sts of yarn in the center and weave the rest of the bracelet. Repeat step 2.

Step 4

Here is a zoom on the tip you need to get. Next, unscrew and unbolt the wooden logs so you can remove the wires without cutting them if possible. Once they are pulled back, cut them in half except for the silver wires which are already separated.

Step 5
Tuto Bracelet Miyuki sliding knot loom weaving : Step 5

Make a braid on each side of the bracelet using the two silver strands on each side and all the weaving threads gathered into one strand. Make a temporary knot at the end.

Step 6
Tuto Bracelet Miyuki sliding knot loom weaving : Step 6

Take a new piece of silver wire of 15 cm and knot it on the two crossed braids. Each end of the wire should be the same length.

Step 7
Tuto Bracelet Miyuki sliding knot loom weaving : Step 7

Make a macramé overhand knot about 1 cm long. Test the bracelet on your hand to see how long the braid needs to be to be able to put it on easily and without force. Adjust the knots of the two braids so that they are the same length.

Step 8
Tuto Bracelet Miyuki sliding knot loom weaving : Step 8

Cut all the wire ends at 4 mm from the knot and burn them with the flame of a lighter by bringing the flame gently closer to the wire. Be careful, this is the most critical part of the tutorial. One wrong move and your bracelet is ruined. If the wire catches fire, quickly extinguish it by placing the edge of the lighter on the flame to smother it. Be careful not to burn anything else! Including you! If you prefer not to use a lighter, you can use a wire burner or glue.
