How to make a multi strand beaded bracelet ?

You like pearl weaving and you are also among the undecided between gold or silver team? You don't want to choose between the two anymore? Here is a beading tutorial that will reconcile you with the fact of wearing gold and silver at the same time! You'll see, it's easy, you just have to dare!

Well, we still had to make a choice between gold or silver clasp. Even if our heart is set on gold once again, this clasp also exists in silver with an aged effect. If you don't want to choose between one or the other, you can also replace the gold or silver beads by color, white or black.

The technique used here is loom bead weaving. You will need a rather long loom to make this bracelet, because twisting the bead strips requires more length than a classic bracelet. If you have the small classic loom we sell, it is however possible to lengthen the loom threads with the tip presented here, on this technical sheet reminding you the basics of loom weaving: How to make a woven bracelet with a slipknot?

This tutorial is part of the September 2021 DIY collection "Shadow and Light". This collection focuses on mixing gold and silver on the same piece of jewelry or accessory. Tutorial steps

Step 1
Miyuki twisted silver and gold bracelet : Step 1

You need to weave the two strips of beads separately. Start by attaching the 2 thin wires to the loom, then the thicker ones on each side. You can also use thin wires instead of the two thick ones. Cut 1.5 m of weaving thread, thread it onto a needle and tie the end of the thread to one of the two thick threads. Keep 10 cm of the thread end to hide in the beads later. String 3 delicas 11/0 beads. You can also use seed beads. Pass the thread with the beads under the threads of the loom. Place the beads between each thread and hold them in place with your finger. Pass the needle back through the beads in the other direction, being careful to pass over the loom threads. Tighten the weave. Continue weaving the beads 3 by 3 for about 18 to 20 cm.

Step 2

To change the thread, make a knot with the thread of the weaving, pass it through the previous beads on several rows and bring out the thread in the middle of the weaving. Then cut it. Take a new thread, tie it to the weaving, keeping 10 cm of thread end. Hide the end of the thread in the beads before cutting it and resume the weaving where you left off.

Step 3

Once you have a sufficiently long strip of beads, cut it to the maximum length of thread. Tie the strands 2 by 2 on the beginning side with double knots. Save the end side for later. You will probably have to remove some of the beads later. Keep this strip aside and move on to the second strip.

Step 4

Once you have finished step 3 for the second strip, cut off the excess thread on the knotted side.

Step 5

Put glue in the clasp slot and slide the two strips in, making sure they are as flat and spaced out as possible. Wait a few hours for the glue to dry before continuing.

Step 6

Braid the strips of beads, keeping them flat, i.e. without twisting them. Use clothespins or pins to keep them in place. Test the length of the bracelet on your wrist and check the position of the crossings. Adjust and remove beads at the end if necessary. Then repeat steps 3 to 5 for the second side. Be careful when gluing and putting on the bracelet not to twist the bands. To make sure it doesn't move, you can put a tiny bit of glue where the bands cross.

Step 7

Wait 24 hours for the glue to dry thoroughly before wearing the bracelet. Store it in a separate pocket from other jewellery so that it does not get tangled.
